Since 2009, the country's foremost running organizations have worked together to celebrate the sport with thousands of participants on the first Wednesday of June. •  Polar Plunge at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor - The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and anyone who wants to support local Special Olympics to run (or pretend to jump) into the wave pool at Hurricane Harbor. Each participant who raises a minimum of $50 gets a long-sleeve shirt and can enjoy the festivities (Either by taking the plunge or watching from the "Chicken Coop."). Raise more than $50 and you will have the opportunity to earn cool and fun prizes. Children 12 and under can "chill out" at the Cub Plunge. "Cub" participants register online and raise a minimum of $50, but they plunge into a shallow wave pool first! If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land rather than running into the waves, attend the event as a "Too Chicken to Plunge" participant. Costumes are not mandatory but very much encouraged. You can brave the waters as Superman, rock out like a superstar, or dive in wearing nothing but a swimsuit. They will award a prize to the person who comes up with the most clever and unique costume.
