Photography Expo, Competition and Seminars Give Back in More Ways than One
November, 2006 - Issue #25
Cliche-speaking, a picture is worth a thousand words, but on November 5, they'll be worth some quested-after ribbons and much-needed funds to boot.

The Santa Clarita Valley's Photographers Association will be hosting their fifth annual Photo Expo and Fall Print Competition at the Hyatt from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and this year's event brings multiple cultural and practical learning opportunities with it.

Jennifer Wilson

Felicia Tausig took last year
Felicia Tausig took last year's prize in the graphic art category. At the expo, she will be presenting a free seminar on using Corel Painter software.
First on the list is the inclusion of a silent auction; select works will be available for purchase at the expo, with funds benefiting Carousel Ranch, a local nonprofit organization that provides equestrian therapy to mentally- and physically-handicapped kids.

Next, the Mayor's Award will be bestowed upon the winners of the Junior Print Competition. This award supports the efforts of elementary-, middle- and high school-aged children. The Junior Print Competition captures the talent and artistic expression through a child's perspective and also allows children the opportunity to participate and experience an actual photo print competition. Of course, the traditional adult competition will also be on exhibit.

Both amateur and practiced photographers will benefit from a hearty selection of educational seminars provided by some of Santa Clarita's most celebrated photographers. Check out the sidebar for all the information.

And lastly, if you've already begun to hum "Jingle Bells" under your breath, Mitzi Mandel will be offering her Glimpse of Santa photo sessions to the public. Her unique technique of showcasing children with Santa holding their hands while the face of Santa remains an unseen mystery might make quite the holiday card!
