COC Offers Free First Year of Study

College of the Canyons (COC) serves the Santa Clarita Valley as a vital, enduring, cultural, educational and economic force in the region. The COC Foundation generates philanthropic support for the college, allowing COC to perform beyond the achievement level that tax dollars alone can support and to strive for the highest levels of excellence in teaching, scholarship, vocational training and innovation. As part of a national and statewide initiative, COC is launching an exciting new opportunity for local high school students to attend their first year of college completely free. The first 26 months of the program will be funded through a $750,000 grant from the California Community College State Chancellor's Office. Thereafter, for the following 24 months, the College of the Canyons Foundation is expected to raise $250,000 per year for two years. First-Year Promise, as it is known, will not only reduce the financial challenges faced by college students, it will reinforce the college's commitment to offer a quality affordable and accessible educational experience, which builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Applications are now being accepted and closes Monday, May 15.
