Eat, Drink & Play
October, 2009 - Issue #60
From lunch breaks to football frenzies, there are so many fabulous ways to have fun this month in the SCV!

EAT
Lunch Breaks

In addition to lunch sizes of your favorite Wolf Creek salads and pastas (ranging from $6.95 to $11.95), there is also an exclusive lunchtime pizza and salad combo for only $10.95. The combo offers a slightly smaller version of one of their hand-tossed pizzas and a choice of Caesar, baby greens and gorgonzola, or garden salad. And - not to worry - if you want to feel special during your "you" time, they also have daily lunch specials, available Monday through Sunday until 4:30 p.m. Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Company in Valencia; 263-9653

Take a tortilla chip trip to El Chaparral or Presidente Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and fill up on the new Express Lunch Menu offered for only $7.25 (the chips and salsa are on them!). The best part? You don't have to call your travel agent to take advantage of this bueno Mexican menu. El Chaparral Mexican Restaurant in Canyon Country; 252-5599 and Presidente Mexican Grill in Saugus; 297-7244

DRINK
Moon Lighting

If you've never been to Italy, there's no better way to experience it than New Moon style (because no one does Italian like an Asian-fusion restaurant!). New Moon's Campari Orange cocktail is a refreshing blend of the Italian import's semi-bitter cordial quench and citrus. While it's still warm outside, sip it on the patio under the stars, because that's amore. Follow New Moon at www.twitter.com/NewMoonValencia for updates on special cocktails and more. New Moon Restaurant in Valencia; 257-4321

Top Tequila
Remember the feeling you had when you aced a test? There's nothing more satisfying than perfection, which is why Sabor offers 100-percent agave tequila. The rich, bold flavors offer a fresh, unadulterated taste that is far superior to its sugar-filled step-siblings. If you need a little kick in your samba, step it up a notch with infused tequilas that are as flavorful as they are strong. Sabor Cocina Mexicana in the Bridgeport Marketplace; 259-9002

PLAY
There's football, and then there's football season. The occasional gang of misfits who get together sporting coordinated colored flags drum up some excitement, but come September, it's hard to ignore the roar of football fans everywhere. From bars to couches, whether it's college or NFL, hell hath no fury like a fan scorned! To soften the blow of his (or her) favorite team's inevitable loss, here are two kickoff-worthy venues (and one player's platter option):

'Cake Off Time
Holy Hail Mary breakfast! Start off your Sunday ticket as early as 9 a.m. with $2 pancakes (hold the buffalo sauce!) at Wings Pizza-N-Things in Castaic (295-1000). A flap jack and a sack; what could be sweeter? On Mondays, guzzle up $2 domestic bottles and drafts, plus 50-cent wings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. And let's not forget Saturdays, when heated college rivalries flare up in back-to-back pig skin battles, but USC and UCLA fans cool off with happy-hour prices any time their team is scheduled for televised field time.

NFL Noshing
Although noshing may be a foreign concept to most football fans, Salt Creek Grille (222-9999) dishes out some serious eats on Mondays for Monday Night Football. Sure, it lacks the good old "spilled beer and crushed carpet chips" feel, but the idea of being waited on is music to any die-hard fan's ears. Choose between an Italian sausage sandwich with onions and peppers, Buffalo wings or blackened chicken nachos, or splurge and "nosh" on all three! And the Extended Happy Hour ends when the game ends, so pray for overtime!

Fantasy Food-Ball
Sometimes the comfort of your own couch is unparalleled when you just want to kick off your shoes and have the pleasure of screaming at the television as if the ref can actually hear you! When this becomes par for the football season course, and you just can't stand another burnt frozen dinner, call Gandolfo's (257-8844) for reinforcements. The $5 Meal Deal after 5 p.m. will keep you from spending a fortune cookie on Chinese take out (plus chopsticks and football go together like T.O. and humility). If you are entertaining a crew of Cheeseheads, opt for one of their enormous, but cash friendly, platters so you never have to leave the couch.
