EAT
Cravings for Schreiner's Fine Sausages are no longer restricted to "Friday Nights Under the Lights" (they are the official concessions for Valencia and West Ranch). Get your fix on Sundays at the COC farmers' market or check out their turn-key catering at www.schreinersfinesausages.com; 818-244-4735

Who among us couldn't put six gourmet cookies or cupcakes to good use? Treat your family/office/neighbors/workout partners with a half-dozen treats from Lady Di's Cookies & Sweets and get a freebie for yourself. (Tip: Eat the free one yourself. Nothing is more delicious than a Lady Di's goodie you didn't have to pay for.) Mention Inside SCV with purchase to snag yours; 222-9102

Rumor has it that we're in for another La Nina. With a potential for more Saugus snow in our future, may we suggest enjoying these last warm days as much as possible? Meet us on Sabor Cocina Mexicana's gorgeous patio. We'll be the ones noshing on Enchiladas Suizas (chicken, Oaxaca cheese, salsa verde, queso) and shaking our angry fists at the sky; 259-9002

DRINK
Your afternoon just got happier. Marston's Restaurant is now open for Happy Hour Tuesday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wine by the glass is $4, well drinks are $5, martinis are $6 and specialty drinks, like the Red Hawk Martini (pomegranate, Svedka vodka and fresh lemon) are $7; 253-9910

Everything, and we do mean everything, is better when you have a margarita in your hand. We intend to set up shop at Hacienda Don Cuco on Tuesdays, when Happy Hour margaritas are served all day. In fact, we only plan on leaving so that we can get ready for Ladies Night Out at Hacienda on Wednesday ($4 margaritas, gals! We'll see you there!); 252-8074

You know that The Social has quite the reputation for their martini menu, where you'll find over 100 of the shaken or stirred beverages. What you may not know is that you can sip on your favorite for less when you drop in for Happy Hour Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; 799-9155

Wine lovers need not travel farther than Salt Creek Grille Valencia to sip some of the best selections around - for less. Drop in on Wine Down Wednesdays, when selected wines are discounted by the glass, or kick off the week right with Half-price Bottle Mondays, when all wines valued at less than $100 are half price; 222-9999

Raise your pint glass to Oggi's Pizza & Brewing Co. They just took medals at the Los Angeles and San Diego Fair Beer Competitions in the following categories: American-style Stout (Black Magic Stout; LA), Scottish-style Ale (McGarvey's Scottish Ale; LA and SD), and American-style Light Lager (Oggi's Light Lager; LA); 252-7883

When our waiter says, "Would you like wine with dinner?" we panic. Years of being the uncool kid in school have taught us that any choice, however well informed, will prompt mockery. And, to make matters worse, when it comes to wine, we're tragically uniformed. It's enough to keep us at home, drinking booze from a box. The Oaks Grille at TPC feels our pain. They've done the pairing for us. On our next night out, we're ordering Jumbo Sea Scallops with a glass of Murrietas Well "The Whip" Livermore Valley 2009; Filet Mignon with Murrietas Well "The Spur" Livermore Valley 2008; and Seafood Risotto with Ferrari Carano "Fume Blanc" Sonoma County 2010; 288-1995

Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Company has a big heart to go with their microbrews. They produced a special ale in honor of the Santa Clarita Valley Child and Family Center's 35th anniversary - and they'll donate .35 cents per pint purchased. Try the CFC Anniversary Ale, an Irish Red created by award-winning brewer Rob McFerren (who, by the way, was most recently awarded two silver and one bronze medal for his brews at the LA County Fair);
263-9653

You decide. That's the philosophy behind Vino 100's monthly Black Bag wine club. Each month Vino 100 will pour four select wines that are not yet available in the store. Members can taste all four wines, then decide which two they would like to take home that month. (If you can't make the Black Bag tasting, you can stop in any time that week to give the wines a try.) The process is fun and informative; you'll savor unique selections you've never tried before while learning about the grapes that made the wine; how to pair it; what to taste for; common misconceptions and more. (If you're like us, you'll love them all. The hardest part is choosing which two make the cut!) Recent Black Bag selections include a dry rose. Domain Massamier La Mignarde 2010 is a delicious and delightful wine that dispelled our belief that a rose was what you ordered when white zin wasn't on the menu. (Yeah, we have a long way to go. Luckily, when you study wine, you get to drink while you learn!); 294-6886

PLAY
Have you ever wondered how the avocado in your fridge got there? (No... not the, "Who put the avocado in the freakin' fridge!? It'll never ripen that way!" drama. We're talking more like, "How was this avocado harvested and prepped for sale?") Limoneira Company has practiced sustainable farming for more than a century. Tour their lemon-packing facility, check out the solar panels and find out how food gets to your table by booking a tour; 866-321-8222

The Cupcake Tree doesn't mince, at least when it comes to words. (The verdict is out on whether or not they mince their gourmet cupcake ingredients.) And we quote: "We believe in the convenience of making cupcakes versus larger occasion cakes. We appreciate the convenience of not taking time away from our event to cut and serve cake, not having to buy plates and forks, and being able have a perfectly proportioned treat for everyone!" We totally buy into their Cupcake Bill of Rights, especially when their ridiculously adorable Halloween-party treats are on the menu; 251-YUMM (9866)

Keyes Lexus of Valencia is filled with do-gooderness kinds of people. When not selling drool-worthy luxury vehicles, the company and its representatives are supporting equestrian therapy (Carousel Ranch), after-school programs (the Boys & Girls Club) and over a dozen other local nonprofits (via the Keyes Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues concerts and more). Recently, we found key Keyes representatives (surely that joke has never been made before) at the Keyes Lexus of Valencia Boys & Girls Club golf tournament. Pictured: Howard Tenenbaum, John Perkins, Kevin Hochman and James Forsyth.

We love animals. We love clothes. Loving "Rescues on the Runway," a fashion show fundraiser, was just the logical progression of our adoration. Held on Saturday, November 12 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, the event boasts a holiday boutique that will be open to the public (from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.). The dinner fashion show starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $75 a person (Dressy cocktail attire requested, except for Fido. Your pet can enter a beauty contest for $25. Then dressy attire is optional!) The fashions of Mul Tayoba Design Couture and the little dogs and cats walking the runway are reason enough to reserve your seats now. And of course there will be lots of little rescues for adoption that evening to take home. Funds are used to save animals from local kill shelters. Learn more at www.rescuesontherunway.com; 252-3232

The Battle for Celebrity Chef of Santa Clarita will again be waged, rematching Daniel Otto of TPC, who will seek to once again hold off the amazing skills of Robinson Ranch's Efren Gonzalez and Rolf Rothen of the Hyatt Valencia Vines Restaurant - all in the name of charity. Partake in the tasty delights by becoming a sponsor of the Wine Affair, presented by Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley. The VIP reception (where you'll learn the "secret ingredient!") is on Saturday, October 15. You'll also receive tickets to the Wine Affair, booked for October 16; 313-9119
