Eat, Drink & Play
June, 2012 - Issue #92
Father's Day, graduation parties, cupcakes, jazz performances, the newest Lexus... it's all in this issue's Eat/Drink/Play.

EAT
To be honest, we could go the rest of our lives eating only Salt Creek Grille's French Onion soup and be perfectly content, but it seems like the culinary masterminds of SCG have other things in mind. We'll take one of each... Mesquite Grilled Artichoke, Cajun Chicken Penne Pasta, Santa Maria Tri-tip, Eight-ounce Lobster Tail, Parmesan Creamed Spinach, Sweet Potato Mashed and Roasted Cauliflower are some of the new flavors on the new menu.

CELEBRATING DADS
& GRADS

If there's a cuter, more delicious way to celebrate Father's Day, we haven't found it. Lady Di's Cookies & Sweets has introduced the most Dad-worthy custom cupcakes with golf themes, chocolate tools and more. Or pick up graduation-themed cupcakes in school colors! This month also marks the release of the newest cupcake. Curly Q is a dark, rich chocolate cupcake filled with marshmallow buttercream and topped with chocolate ganache. 222-9102

Want to honor your grad? Have a party! Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Co. will make it happen via their well-appointed banquet room or patio, great catering options or a simple pick up! They make your graduation party special, simple and affordable. (They work, you have fun!) Party faves include their delicious pastas (like the Thai pasta or Sun-dried Tomato Pesto) and chicken entrees (Dijon or Country French) paired with a salad and sides. And hurry in to taste their Renegade Rye, a special beer brewed to celebrate their 15th anniversary in the SCV. 263-9653

Treat Dad to a free day of play at Mountasia Family Fun Center on Father's Day! With the purchase of a child's Unlimited Play Pass ($19.99 or above), dad will have "free" reign of the place! While you're there, book your graduation party. Mountasia can accommodate groups of 10 to 1,000 (Seriously!) and can make their special day one that they'll never forget. 253-4FUN (4386)

Picture this: Your Father's Day or graduation party going off without a hitch. Kids sipping frozen slushies whenever their hearts desire. Adults pouring themselves (another!) perfectly blended margarita. You relaxing, enjoying your guests, taking in the compliments! When you call The Drink Dr., your guests can enjoy a self-service frozen (and fun!) beverage and you can enjoy your party! Rentals are surprisingly affordable. Check out the way-low prices on page 51. 510-5778

DRINK
Since June is devoted to celebrating fatherhood, Vino 100 has selected three "manly" wines to enjoy. If a professional golf swing eludes Dad, he can still join the ranks of professional golfers by sipping PGA Tour Wines 2006 Commissioner's Reserve Chardonnay from the Russian River (Sonoma). Perfect with roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes or seafood, this soft, supple wine has well-balanced acidity with the ripe flavors of apples and citrus. Another man-favorite is 2009 Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon from Roots Run Deep Winery (Napa) with rich, ripe, juicy flavors of blackberry and cherry fruit, and a hint of cocoa with a creamy vanilla finish that lingers. No guessing required; this wine pairs terrifically with grilled meats, hearty stews, roasted lamb and hard sharp cheeses. To help make Dad the center of attention, try Center of Effort 2009 Pinot Noir (Edna Valley). He'll find black cherry and wet stone aromas with ripe plum, black tea and cola flavors, as well as silky tannins and a lingering finish. It pairs well with roast pork, grilled salmon, roasted chicken and grilled meats. 294-6886

So you've heard that Sabor Cocina Mexicana's Jicama Tacos are back and you're ready to make your move. Now the only question is, "What drink would perfectly accompany the best tacos in the entire world?" We have four words for you: pineapple-jalapeno-infused tequila. The mixologists at Sabor infuse fresh pineapples, jalapenos and 100-percent agave tequila for 21 days - then make a martini out of it. And yes, it tastes even more amazing than it looks and sounds. 259-9002

Yes - there is a T-Rex at the zoo! Duncan the Dinosaur stars in the Beautiful Santa Barbara Zoo's stage show, How to Train Your Dinosaur. Created by Hollywood special effect wizards, Chiodo Brothers and David Barrington Holt, Duncan stands seven feet tall and is 16 feet long. This amazingly lifelike T-Rex runs, snorts, blinks, growls and even poops in a fun and funny 15-minute live show. "He's a real-life pretend dinosaur!" say kids. What the kids don't know is that Duncan is a "stand in" for the fascinating animal training and care the Santa Barbara Zoo does behind the scenes. "Our zoo keepers can't show you how to brush a gorilla's teeth or give an Asian elephant a pedicure on stage. With Duncan the Dinosaur, however, we can demonstrate our world-class animal care techniques in a fun and entertaining fashion," says Santa Barbara Zoo CEO Rich Block. Find out more at www.sbzoo.org and "like" Inside SCV Magazine on Facebook for a chance to win a family four-pack to the Santa Barbara Zoo! Our next winners will be announced after June 4, so don't wait!
