Resolutions: "Do" versus "Be"
January, 2013 - Issue #99
Happy New Year!

It's time again for those annual resolutions: "This year, I'll lose weight!" "In 2013, we'll get out of debt!" We even make resolutions for God: "We'll go to church every week!"

Research shows, though, that 30 percent of New Year's resolutions are broken within the first seven days and a remarkable 90 percent of our resolutions are forgotten by June. 90 percent!

And so, year after year, some time in February we find ourselves grabbing cookies instead of carrot sticks, barely making minimum payments on our credit cards and hitting snooze on the alarm clock yet again on Sunday morning.

"Maybe next year," we say.

Why do we fail at our goals? Because we haven't learned this important principle:

"Who you are will determine what you do."

We hope that just by doing something different - like eating better or shopping less - we'll become someone different.

Instead, we should reverse it. We should decide who we want to be and let that determine what we do.

It's about character, not accomplishments.

This year, don't make a list of "do" goals. Instead, set "be" goals. Don't ask, "What should I do in 2013?" Instead ask, "Who do I want to become?"

Because who you are will determine what you do.

Christmas at Real Life Church
To help you kick off the Christmas and resolution season, Real Life Church will host its annual Christmas Concerts.

From the opening pages of God's story, He has shown Himself to be a creator and the ultimate artist. Every weekend from the main stage and children's environments, RLC artists create experiences to help people connect to this creative God. Real Life Church is blessed to have a deep pool of artists to draw from. That's why every year they're excited to create the Christmas Concert experience highlighting a number of artists at one time - showcasing each person's unique talent.

This year, 45 RLC artists including vocalists, musicians, comedians and production personnel, along with a 60-person children's choir will perform for two nights, December 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. There will be something for everyone in this multi-genre production - from traditional Christmas favorites to contemporary hits and original arrangements. It will be a perfect event for the entire family and one to invite friends and co-workers. Don't miss this once-a-year creative Christmas experience! Admission is free.

Real Life Church will also have several Christmas Eve Service times to choose from this year. You're invited to celebrate the birth of Christ with Real Life Church.

Sunday, December 23 at 8:30 a.m., 10a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Monday, December 24 at 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11p.m.
