Laser Hair Therapy Proven to
Re-grow Hair in 94 Percent of Subjects
In February 2007, the FDA found that the technology in low level laser therapy (LLLT) was not only safe but was able to effectively re-grow hair in 94 percent of the people involved in the study. In a study with Finasteride (also FDA approved to re-grow hair) and LLLT, the Finasteride grew 54 new hairs per square inch and the LLLT grew 135 new hairs per square inch. Laser light uses the scientific principle of photo biotherapy. This process occurs when cells absorb light and repair themselves. Laser light penetrates deep into the tissues of the scalp, stimulating micro-circulation of blood supply, cell metabolism and protein synthesizes.
Laser treatments are beneficial for all hair types by increasing the blood flow by 54 percent. It works in varying degrees on everyone, from slowing, arresting or reversing hair loss to increasing the shine, body and elasticity of hair. LLLT works on all areas of the scalp: front, top, back and sides. Laser is recommended for either men or women who are in the early stages of hair loss or who demonstrate sufficient hair follicles capable of being rehabilitated by the laser hair therapy program. Usually noticeable improvement is achieved in three to six months. However, if you have heavy hair fall-out, you may notice a reduced rate of fall-out after only a few treatments. Results vary per individual, and compliance is necessary to achieve the best results. To maintain a healthy head of hair, especially if there is a history of baldness in your family, the sooner you start the better.

Common Hearing Aid Myths - Dispelled
by Nola Aronson, MA
Myth: "I'm too young to wear a hearing aid" & "Hearing loss affects only 'old people' because it is only a sign of aging."

Truth: Actually it is the reverse of what most people think. The majority (65 percent) of people with hearing loss are younger than age 65. There are more than six million people in the US between the ages of 18 and 44 with hearing loss, and nearly one and a half million are school age. Hearing loss affects all age groups.

Myth:"The hearing aid will show; people will think I'm getting old."

Truth: Your hearing loss is more conspicuous than any hearing aid. People will think there is something wrong with you when you answer incorrectly or ignore what they say. Today's hearing devices are made for the Baby Boomer generation. They are so small, only your audiologist will know for sure.

Myth:"If I had hearing loss, my family doctor would have told me."

Truth: Not true! Only 13 percent of physicians routinely screen for hearing loss during a physical. Since most people with hearing impairments hear well in a quiet environment like a doctor's office, it can be virtually impossible for your physician to recognize the extent of your problem. Without special training and an understanding of the nature of hearing loss, it may be difficult for your doctor to even realize that you have a hearing problem.

Myth:"Hearing aids are too expensive."

Truth: What does it cost you in your life when you say the wrong things, lose your job, or stop doing the things you enjoy because you can't understand? There is a range of hearing aids for every budget and it depends on the amount of noise reduction you need. Also, this is a long-term investment only every five years or so; all the additional services, like adjusting and cleaning, should be free.
