10 Years Later, Team Runners Lane is Thriving
For Runners Lane, Santa Clarita's favorite choice for athletic footwear, the biggest difference between 10 years ago and today is that Team Runners Lane is thriving. It's a group that not only comes together to run but a group that has forged friendships, motivation and a culture that only TEAM RL can bring. They run for causes, they run to better themselves, they run to help people, they run to build a better community. They run roads, trails, through mud and through 5Ks to ultramarathons. Runners Lane has created a running community of possibility! Runners Lane 260-3368

FLASHBACK TO 2005

"When we opened our doors in November of 2005 here in the Santa Clarita Valley, we were just getting our workers' comp insurance in place, so we were not able to hire or place caregivers until January 1. However, we received a CALL FOR SERVICE in December, so I was fortunate enough to spend my Christmas and New Year's holiday with two of loveliest people I've ever met. One of them is no longer with us, the other remains our client today,"

IPL Treatment Proves Successful for Chronic Dry Eye
Until recently, the only thing you could do for chronic dry eyes was rely on daily eye drops or ointments, take medications and, if your case was bad enough, use topical steroids. While not ideal, these options were better than not treating the problem: chronic dry eye can lead to scarring and impaired vision. An innovative use of intense-pulsed-light (IPL) has changed that for the better.

In the January 2015 issue of Photomed Laser Surgery, authors Toyos, McGill and Briscoe summarized that intense-pulsed-light therapy treatment for dry eye syndrome is promising. Physician-judged improvement was noted in 87 percent of patients after only seven treatments and four maintenance visits. Most remarkably, 93 percent of the patients surveyed replied positively when asked about post-treatment satisfaction. No serious adverse reactions were noted for any of the 78 patients studied over the three-year experiment.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Celebrates 40 Years with Community Gala
On August 22, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a Gala showcasing the hospital's growth from 1975 to the present. The Gala committee is led by co-chairs Cheri Fleming of Valencia Acura and Mitzi Like of LBW Insurance and Financial Services. The event will include a four-course dinner, professional entertainment and a unique naming opportunities auction. The event committee is proud and honored to welcome Dallas Raines, a member of the ABC7 Eyewitness News team and his wife, Dannie, who are on tap as the event's celebrity hosts. "With the hospital celebrating its 40th Anniversary, we are pleased that a capital campaign initiative for the new patient tower will coincide with this meaningful date," said Diana Vose, president of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has grown alongside the Santa Clarita Valley Community to provide world-class healthcare to its residents. The hospital opened in 1975 with 100 beds, including an ICU and coronary units. Today, Henry Mayo is a 238-bed, not-for-profit community hospital and trauma center offering a wide range of patient services, including emergency, intensive care, maternity, breast imaging, surgery, nursing, wound care, stroke, behavioral health and acute rehabilitation, as well as cancer, cardiology, imaging, lab, digestive, respiratory services and physical and occupational therapies.

Recent additions to Henry Mayo's campus, located on McBean Parkway in Valencia, include the Henry Mayo Center, Education Center and Simulation Lab, the Kim and Steven Ullman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Roberta G. Veloz Cardiac Catheterization Lab, expanded Emergency Department, Wayne and Connie Spears Intensive Care Unit, Akbar Hasan Infusion Center and a parking structure and helipad. An additional parking structure is slated to open in 2015 and construction will begin on a six-story patient tower which will provide an additional 118 beds for the care of patients. All of the rooms will be private. The tower roof will serve as the hospital's permanent helipad with direct access to the Emergency Department.
