We Tried It!
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

When Inside SCV Pub Jeanna Crawford injured her forearms from repetitive motion installing custom high-end holiday decor (Yes, this is a thing - and it's glorious. Follow her on Instagram @JeannaLovesChristmas), she went to our friends at Mend Cryotherapy for PEMF - and it worked like a charm. After her relaxing, non-invasive appointment, her pain, inflammation and movement restrictions significantly improved. She kept up with it for a few weeks to fully heal. How'd it work? In over 2,000 medical studies, PEMF has been found to support the body's own healing ability by replenishing the natural charge that exists in healthy cells. Over time, the cells in our bodies begin to lose their energy. The reduction of your cells' energy is the root of cellular dysfunction. With PEMF, you can energize your cells and reduce the risk of the cellular dysfunction.

Your Heartburn Could Lead to Cancer
Persistent heartburn, a common symptom of Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD), results when stomach acids splash upward from the stomach and result in damage to the esophagus. These fluids can cause pre-cancerous changes, leading to a condition called Barrett's Esophagus, which increases the risk for cancer. Barrett's Esophagus patients are 25 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer (EC) than the average person. Less than 5 percent of the patients diagnosed with EC will survive 5 years. This is largely because the disease is usually discovered at late stages when treatment is rarely successful. The key to surviving esophageal cancer is early detection. Here are some preventive actions for you to consider:

1. Seek medical care if any of the following symptoms persist: persistent heartburn or acid indigestion; speaking with a hoarse voice for several weeks; having an ongoing, unexplained cough; experiencing a long-lasting, unexplained sore throat.

2. Don't lie down after eating. Lying down can increase the chances that stomach acids will reflux into the esophagus.
3. Sleep with your head elevated. This will decrease the likelihood of acid refluxing into your esophagus.

4. Achieve your optimal weight. Being overweight can lead to the reflux of stomach acid which, in turn, increases the occurrence of EC.

5. Don't overuse antacids. If the need for antacids persists, talk to your healthcare provider about options.

Henry Mayo Employees Donate over $1 Million for New Patient Tower
On a Wednesday evening in September, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital employees gathered at The Canyon to celebrate a milestone in Henry Mayo's Employee Giving Campaign, a fundraising effort launched three years ago supporting construction of the hospital's new patient tower, scheduled to open late October. The Employee Giving Campaign has been a critical component in Henry Mayo's ongoing "Building for Your Health" capital campaign and has attracted over 600 participants.

Since 2016, Henry Mayo employees have donated over 1 million dollars through the Employee Giving Campaign. By comparison, this is roughly the same amount donated by employees in the 41 years between the Hospital's opening in 1975 and the start of the campaign in 2016.

Chaired by Fitzpatrick and Dustin Ashenfelter, RN, Henry Mayo's Director of Emergency & Trauma Services, hospital employees have enthusiastically supported the giving campaign at varying levels. Many employees chose to donate an hour or more of their pay every pay period through automatic payroll deductions, earning them the highest donor distinction of "Boss."
The Hospital's New Patient Tower will include 119 private patient rooms, including a 29-bed expanded Center for Women and Newborns with additional surgical suites, a new cafe and kitchen, an expanded laboratory and blood bank, and a rooftop helipad with direct Emergency Department access.

Henry Mayo staff and volunteers are slated to move patients into the new patient tower on October 27.

What's PRP, Anyway?
Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is blood plasma (Your own!) with concentrated platelets and other growth factors. The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including growth factors and signaling proteins that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These growth factors number at least a dozen different factors. The bioactive proteins initiate connective tissue healing, articular cartilage regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels and stimulate the wound-healing process. The PRP signals the body to send in stem cells to repair the area of injury by generating new tissue and formation of new blood vessels. The entire PRP process takes less than 15 minutes and increases the concentration of platelets and growth factors up to 600 percent. At Valencia Foot & Ankle Center, the success rate so far has been 95 percent.

The "Sure Health Shooter" is the Wellness Drink
You Need

A great overall wellness drink that ensures you are receiving additional calcium, vitamins A and D and the Omega 3 fatty acids that you need for good health, the "Sure Health Shooter" can be a gamechanger.

It all starts with calcium - the most abundant mineral in the body. But rarely in Western civilizations does dietary calcium intake reach sufficient levels. VITRATOX Calphonite is a unique, time-tested calcium supplement that contains essential metabolic cofactors: phosphorous, magnesium and manganese. The patented process breaks down dicalcium phosphate into its ionic state, making the calcium more soluble and bioavailable. The calcium in Calphonite is absorbed eight times more readily than the calcium in bone meal or regular dicalcium phosphate, permitting assimilation into the bloodstream within an hour and a half. Calphonite provides liquid calcium in a naturally acidic state, providing an immediately bioavailable calcium supplement.

The fat-soluble vitamins A and D are essential for proper calcium metabolism and assimilation. The immediate effects of Calphonite are greatly increased when it is taken with cod liver oil, a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin D and essential fatty acids including linoleic, linolenic, arachidonic, eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids. These nutrients are critical for normal metabolism, brain and nerve function and protecting and building the immune system.
