An Updated Guide for Families Caring for Dementia Care Patients
Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) is a free Medicare program that covers the costs of dementia care navigation services for those who are eligible. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced the GUIDE Model to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and empower caregivers with support and resources. GUIDE began in July 2024 as an eight-year, nationwide pilot program.
The good news is, the search for participating physicians and organizations that can help families qualify for the GUIDE Program is getting much easier. Family caregivers seeking help should start with their own family doctors to find out if they are GUIDE participants. If not, there are some trusted websites you can visit to learn more about the program and search for GUIDE participants. They include the Alzheimer's Association and the AARP. There are also a number of companies, both RN-owned and physician-owned, that have formed to help family caregivers get the dementia care navigation and respite services they so desperately need.
