Family & Friends Gather in Westridge Estates
June, 2016 - Issue #140

ABOVE The dramatic stone waterfall and slide is surrounded by trees and greenery to best infuse the space with a sense of natural authenticity. The pool's glimmering PebbleTec finish reflects the bright-blue sky and bounces the sun's rays across the water. INSET With entertaining being the primary goal of the outdoor space, many distinct seating areas were built to encourage connection between guests.

The custom Country French home sits proudly among its peers in the Westridge Estates, infusing the community with a sense of timeless permanence thanks to its stone-flanked facade, Old European rock walls and dramatic entry.

ABOVE It's easy for the homeowners to brush up on their short game with a custom putting green in the backyard. The couple's grandbaby will soon be traipsing over the lush lawn where Mom and Dad were married. INSET The all-weather wrought-iron table's slats make it easy to clean up spills and prevent water from sitting on the surface during rains. The family often dines outside, taking full advantage of their community's welcoming weather.

It might be a lot to ask of a home that is only a decade old, but in the case of this estate, the space more than matches the grand ambience associated with these luxuriously-established elements. Built for a local family, who took on the project in the midst of raising children while also running a successful business, the authentically-designed home has drawn hundreds of employees, family members and friends over the years to celebrate on the lush grounds.

ABOVE The homeowners' favorite place to relax and catch up after a busy day is in front of the outdoor fireplace. LEFT An open-lattice patio cover filters the SCV's strong summer rays, casting a beautiful shadow over deep-seated wrought-iron patio furniture. The aqua pillows pop against fabric shades of sand.

"Our yard was built for entertaining," says the homeowner. "We are a relationship-driven family and we were committed to cultivating a space that honored the connections that mean the most to us." For example, the outdoor fireplace in the courtyard is where the long-married couple relax together after a long day. "It's where my husband and I enjoy a hot tea and catch up. It's the place where the weight of the world on our shoulders is released and we can just enjoy each other's company," she says.

ABOVE Texture, color and consideration collide in the front yard, where flowers, bushes and trees provide pollinators with shelter and food while creating an aesthetic that is reminiscent of the French countryside. Brick archways are a classic element that gives this home a sense of permanence. The grand wrought-iron and glass front door gives a hint to the beauty the home holds inside. INSET A petite porch is the ideal spot for a well-deserved rest. Seemingly random, but placed with intention, natural stone pavers flank the front yard.

The vibrant space was also where their daughter exchanged "I do's." "Our daughter was married here; that means so much to us! We didn't think the space could accommodate 220 people, but when it was suggested that we cover the pool with faux grass, we realized it could be done. It was beautiful and very sentimental. The whole experience had a very 'Father of the Bride' feel and we couldn't be happier to have our home play such a vital role in her big day." Now, their first grandchild will get to enjoy the same space where Mom and Dad were married.

But that's not the only event of note that has lit the space up with happy energy and love. "We entertain out here year-round. Lots of big pool parties! It's helpful that the barbecue is located under the covered gazebo. There's plenty of shade and protection and the long island that goes along the circumference really comes in handy when we serve food pot-luck style."

ABOVE A stacked-stone pond organically curves around the fire-pit focal point. The water feature draws many birds looking for a quick drink to the yard.

Wonderful Water Features
Ponds like the one pictured here are more than just a gorgeous focal point of an outdoor space; they're a magnet for natural beauty. Ponds draw more than the eye. Birds and pollinators flock to these water features, bringing entertainment and diversity to your yard. A properly-built and well-functioning pond can also support lush plant life that provides shelter and food for fish and amphibians who call your pond home. Children and adults alike are fascinated by ponds and the interest they bring to your outdoor space. Most importantly, they can be installed in a way that is drought friendly, making your pond an oasis in Santa Clarita's hottest months.
