1. Repaint your cabinets with a solid, dark color and then add new hardware to achieve a popular modern look. Rubbed matte black and grey finishes are versatile and timeless.
Available from American Fine Finishing 775-2706

2. Reap big style rewards with a very small investment by painting your trim and moulding with specialty metallic paint. You'll convey a much richer feel than the standard white.
Available from Mint Condition Painting & Moulding 251-5521

3. Add a sense of history and drama with Venetian plaster. This finishing technique creates a smooth surface that implies both texture and depth.
Available from J & B Painting 800-949-2534

4. Turn a personal experience into art. By incorporating scenes from a family vacation spot, favorite city or even a dream, homeowners are turning murals into a more personal reflection of themselves. The goal is to determine what will lift your spirits every time you see it, then have a professional artist translate that concept into your decor.

A Note on Remodeling Homes with Lead-based Paint
Lead is a hazardous mineral that has been used in various paints throughout the century. It has been said to cause such side effects as attention deficit disorder, birth defects, learning and behavioral problems, high blood pressure and miscarriages. On April 22, 2010, the EPA decided to begin regulating the disturbances of lead-based paint by requiring certified firms to work on homes built prior to 1978, and to use special lead-safe work practices if a lead test was performed, and lead was found. This new regulation was made to protect pregnant women and children from the harmful effects lead can cause when not handled properly. For more information about lead in the home please visit www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm
