About Pillar Point Harbor Beach in Half Moon Bay, California

Pillar Point Harbor Beach is the beach inside the jetty across Highway 1 from the housing community of El Granada. Pillar Point Harbor is entirely protected from the ocean waves by two long jetties. This beach inside the protective walls has therefore been spared the erosional effects of the ocean seen outside the harbor at a spot known as Surfer’s Beach. Right behind Pillar Point Harbor Beach you’ll find Sam’s Chowder House Restaurant, the Beach House Hotel, and the Pillar Point RV Park. While this beach is protected from the harsh surf, it’s better for walking and birdwatching than it is for swimming in the cold harbor water. The California Coastal Trail, a multi-use trail passes by the beach connecting Half Moon Bay to Princeton and beyond. If you are eating at Sam’s, then park there, otherwise there is a small lot on the south side of the RV park entrance.
