•  Unitarian Universalist Church Support Human Rights - The Unitarian Universalists of Santa Clarita Valley will combine a membership drive and the Special Collection for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. This organization is noted for its historical and current support and effort on behalf of human rights everywhere. It was first organized by Rev. Waitsell and Martha Sharp, who risked their lives to evacuate endangered persons from Nazi dominated Europe in 1938. In the intervening years they have addressed world hunger, the death penalty, the prison system, segregation and family planning. More recently they have provided aid to women and children in Kosovo, campaigned against the food and medicine ban to Cuba, raised $1.13 million for aid to victims of September 11 attacks, initiated the project "Defending Democracy" to involve citizens in the election process, "What's Your Profile" to examine the roots of racism, and "STOP" to oppose US sanctioned torture. It has collected funds on behalf of the Indian Ocean tsunami victims as well as those in New Orleans and Darfur.

•  Community Forum to relate plans to serve homeless - Long-time supporters of the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter, the Unitarian Universalists of Santa Clarita Valley have invited Tim Davis, executive director of the Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation (SCCDC), to speak after their church services. All members of the community are welcome to attend. This "5th Sunday Forum" is scheduled at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall. Davis will share the SCCDC's plans for serving Santa Clarita's homeless population in the coming year and will spell out the numerous ways local citizens may support these efforts. Future Unitarian Universalist 5th Sunday Forums are scheduled for June, August and November. With an active social and environmental justice focus, this church donates money on a monthly basis to support various local charities and causes. The Emergency Winter Shelter has been the recipient of their generosity several times over the past two years, and congregation members frequently cook meals for shelter residents.
