Now's the Time to
(Re)Consider Injectables
Not too long ago, women and men treated their penchant for Botox as a secret to be guarded like their life was on the line. But the days of "Did she or didn't she?" are coming to a close as more and more Americans consider injectables to be on par with other self-care treatments like laser resurfacing or even a "really good facial." The cat's out of the bag, as the common phrase goes, and so too are syringes filled with wrinkle reducers, line fillers and lip plumpers. And, because of their no-down-time status, pre-holiday-party season is the time to witness firsthand the science of beauty. Whether you want to give injectables a try or are hoping for something a little more permanent, 'tis the season!

"The holidays are such a great time to schedule cosmetic and medical procedures," says Dr. Hayavi of Beverly Hills Physicians (800-788-1416 "Right now, many people will enjoy extra time off from work, which is ideal for procedures that require a little recovery time. A lot of folks want to be able to use their insurance before their coverage changes or their deductible starts over, too. But what we hear from most of our clients is that they very much look forward to getting off to a fresh start for the new year."

As for men and women who are hoping to improve their appearance before the calendar turns, "injectables are a wonderful option," says the doctor. "Our injections are completed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in ensuring that the final result is a softened, natural look. They are relatively inexpensive and a fast way to quickly freshen up your look and take years off your appearance." Right now, Beverly Hills Physicians is offering Botox for $10 per unit and a syringe of Juvederm for only $399.

When it comes to achieving the best look possible, experience matters. "We have several injectors here at Advanced Dermatology (254-3686," says Donna Harrison. "All of our injectors have been injecting for several years, with a combined experience of over 60 years. We have injectors that teach courses to others physicians on how to inject and our work has been featured by Radiesse in their marketing materials. We have the most up-to-date injection techniques, like the liquid facelift; cheek filling to lift the nasal labial fold; tear trough restoration; lip rejuvenation and facial shaping," says the product professional.

"Because of our advanced techniques, we use a wide variety of products, as each has unique characteristics. We use Sculptra for volumizing, facial shaping and collagen stimulation and Radiesse for volumizing and general filling. Perlane, Restylane and Juvederm are great for more superficial filling in areas such as tear troughs, glabella lines, nasal labial folds and lips," explains Harrison. "Our office is also proud to be chosen as one of the first offices is the United States to get the early release of Belotero. Belotero is for fine lines, like vertical lip lines and fine lines around the eyes. We think of this product as an airbrush tool that eases away tiny imperfections," she says.

DermaCure of Valencia (257-8400 combines artistry and experience to achieve more youthful, natural and life-changing results. Dr. Craig F. Ingber, a facial plastic surgeon with over 30 years experience, skillfully performs all filler injections. Dr. Ingber believes in creating a more youthful appearance by lifting sagging areas and restoring lost volume.

The result is natural looking, never puffy. Lips look more symmetrical and voluminous without looking "ducky." Dr. Ingber prefers hyaluronic acid fillers because they give a softer, natural-looking result and break down naturally and evenly, without causing scar tissue.

DermaCure offers Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm products that boast another benefit; the treatment is not uncomfortable because the fillers contain an ingredient to help "numb" the area being treated. Fillers are sold by the syringe and range in price from $459 to $530 each. In your free consultation at DermaCure, you'll be told how many syringes would give you the best result. Specials and rebates are occasionally offered, so the staff invites you to call the office for information on current discounts.
