"On a Budget" doesn't have to Mean "Generic"
Fab Ways to Personalize your Big Event
August, 2009 - Issue #58
Love is in the Details
Chances are, your wedding will require basics like table linens, flatware and chairs. Did you know that the "basics" can be anything but, and for the same price or just pennies more? Your love isn't generic, and your wedding shouldn't be, either. Never miss an opportunity to show off your personality as a couple.

"A company like ours offers lots of variety and depth to our stock," says Rusty Parr of AV Party Rentals. "There's no reason to settle for one style of china when we have seven patterns to choose from. All our sales associates are professionals who can help with planning, coordinating and personalizing your event. By working with your likes and dislikes, your dress colors, your flowers and your venue's needs, we can find great new ways to reflect your unique personality," he continues.

Here are some different ways to put your personality on display:

Linens The company has 36 standard colors in house and access to literally hundreds of additional shades, patterns and fabrics.

Chairs Don't ruin a "Country Romance" wedding with white plastic chairs that better fit a picnic-themed party. AV has a variety of high-end chairs that will ensure your design dreams can stay consistent.

Dance You aren't stuck with a stained-wood dance floor. Gorgeous white dance floors are available from AV Party Rentals.

Five Tips to Personalize your Wedding
(without Breaking the Bank)
1. Monograms are the big thing right now.
Use them wherever you can. Instead of a Lladro figurine or generic flowers on top of your cake, you can find attractive monograms for a reasonable cost.

2. Give a nod to your personal heritage and thrill your grandparents with some traditional food from the Old Country.
If the idea of an entire wedding feast from Russia doesn't excite you, why not offer small cups of borscht as an appetizer? Whatever your background, there's probably some delectable item that could be incorporated into the otherwise "regular" menu.

3. Dollar Dance
If you're having a Dollar Dance, instead of the traditional white satin purse used to collect funds, think of something that reflects your profession or hobbies. Have the best man or maid of honor gather money into a cowboy hat, or a firefighter's boot, or a catcher's mitt, or...

4. Instead of generic table numbers in the dining room, one couple used photos of themselves at different ages.
Table #1 had a photo of the bride and one of the groom at that age, attached to the numeral on the card.

5. Favors can also reflect your personality or at least add a personal touch.
Make small copies of your engagement photo and use them to replace a candy wrapper, the label on a small bottle of sparkling water, or even barbecue sauce.

Hip Par-tea
Today it's all about quality, not quantity. Take the sister-owned catering company, Teas & Sweets, as a prime example. "My sister and I are both in our 20s, and we want to modernize the concept of high tea to a younger, hipper demographic. We truly believe that brides-to-be of any age can enjoy partaking in afternoon tea with their girlfriends and loved ones," says co-owner Ellie Berneman.

The intimate custom tea menu offers freshly-baked scones, delectable pastries and cookies and traditional tea sandwiches like smoked salmon on pumpernickel, cashew chicken and cucumber with cream cheese.

"We modernize the traditional table-scape with our shabby chic, mismatched cups and saucers and by having a main color unifying the flowers and linens. The effect is very clean and elegant, and gives the bride a hand at designing her own party," says Berneman.

For a truly unique event, Teas & Sweets can provide table and chair rentals to transform your home or garden. To make things easier on the bride-to-be, all packages include invitations and thank-you cards, set up, service and breakdown; 310-880-5160
