Madalian's "Makeover"
Includes New Name

Madalian, a specialty retail mainstay in Santa Clarita for the past five years, is celebrating their five-year anniversary with a makeover. Owners Katie LaKamp and Ede Eichmann, will close the store on June 22 and open on Tuesday, June 24, with a new look and a new name: Ma Maison. Clients will experience many of the same offerings, including unique home and garden decor; baby clothing; seasonal and specialty gifts; jewelry; and bath and body products; plus a few surprises. Kevin and Karen Leahy, owners of Candleman Valencia in the Gateway Village shopping center, have announced the upgrade of the website. The focus of the website will not only be to service the local Santa Clarita Valley community, but to showcase Candleman's products to the entire country. COC's Dr.Van Hook takes New Title
Dr. Dianne Van Hook has a new title: chancellor, Santa Clarita Community College District and president, College of the Canyons. At a regular meeting of the Santa Clarita Community College District's Board of Trustees on Wednesday night, a joint meeting with the College of the Canyons Foundation Board, the new title was unveiled to a very appreciative crowd. This year marks Van Hook's 20th year as superintendent-president of College of the Canyons, a period that has seen incredible growth at the college and in the Santa Clarita Valley as a whole.
The Board praised Van Hook particularly for her many accomplishments over the last year, which included overseeing the major tasks of developing and opening a new campus on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, and overseeing the construction and opening of several new buildings on the Valencia campus. College of the Canyons also just boasted the largest graduating class in the school's history, with 1,255 students - a 9.4 percent growth since 2007.

SCV Wine Classic
Wine connoisseurs from across the valley were on hand to mingle, socialize and sample an impeccable array of vintage and current fine wines and gourmet cuisine from some of the area's finest restaurants and caterers at this year's SCV Wine Classic - prompting at least one guest to raise a glass in appreciation. The event, organized by College of the Canyons, drew roughly 500 guests and benefited the SCV Youth Orchestra program.
