New Tech can Help Parents who Struggle with Alcohol
A parent who struggles with an addiction to alcohol or who has a history of drinking can face difficulty getting child custody or parenting time. Despite their desire to get help and get sober, that previous history will hurt them in court. However, new technology has been developed that allows for remote alcohol monitoring, which can keep parents 100% accountable and enhance a child's safety. SoberLink created a remote alcohol testing mechanism to help individuals who wish to end their struggle with alcoholism. The technology enables the court to make sure parents are not impaired while parenting. It detects blood-alcohol content (BAC) at any given time and documents their BAC for accountability. The system has proven to be accurate and reliable in helping recovering individuals report their sobriety progress. In addition, SoberLink uses facial recognition technology to ensure that the person reporting their BAC is who it is supposed to be.
Alcohol abuse is often used to determine how to award child custody; the court ultimately determines a custody arrangement that is in the child's best interests and provides them with a safe environment. Because of this, a parent who struggles with alcohol abuse may face reduced parenting time or be required to be under supervision. SoberLink data is admissible in courts across the United States, including California. Because of all these benefits, using the remote alcohol monitoring technology provided by SoberLink makes parenting time safer for children. It also gives parents who wish to spend time with their children a fighting chance against a stigma.

Death of Anne Heche Creates Public Drama
Last August, actress Anne Heche died at 53 years old following a tragic car accident. She was survived by two young sons.
Heche's eldest son filed a petition for probate alleging that she had died intestate. However, James Tupper, Heche's ex-boyfriend and father of her youngest son, filed an objection, claiming Heche left a will naming him as her executor.
When someone dies leaving a will, it needs to be lodged with the court. The court then determines the authenticity of the document. If the original will is not available, then the court presumes the will was destroyed with an intent to revoke it. This means that Tupper will need to find the original will and lodge it with the court. Failing that, he will need to provide evidence that the will was still in existence when she died. At time of print, Tupper has done neither.
It is too early to know where this case will go and for how long. What we know is that this drama will be carried out in public court. Anne Heche could have avoided this mess by using a trust and keeping it updated. Then Heche could have made it clear who she wanted in charge of her affairs and how her estate should be settled.

Keeping your Family Safe while on the Road
At Valencia Acura, safety is personal and has always been a top priority for the Acura family of precision-crafted performance vehicles. This unrelenting focus drives Acura to create technologies that are as innovative as they are effective.
The first line of defense in collision safety lies in the structure of the car itself. Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering and unit-body construction are both engineered to help absorb crash energy and offer protection to the cabin and its passengers. And since cars carry our most precious cargo, it serves to reason to want the highest safety rating for ourselves and our families.
Annually, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests and evaluates two aspects of safety. They look at crashworthiness - how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash - and crash avoidance and mitigation, which is technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity.
Acura was the first luxury brand awarded top safety ratings - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score - across its entire model line.
All new TLX models come equipped with AcuraWatch technology and MDX models come with an expanded suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Safety is at the heart of Acura's design. Visit Santa Clarita's Friendship Dealership and let their trained sales consultants help navigate the safety features standard on Acura models.
