President Carter Enters Hospice
Former President Jimmy Carter, age 98, was recently transferred from the hospital to home hospice care. President Carter was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2015 which spread to his liver and brain but said he was cancer free by the end of the year.
Hospice is a specialized form of healthcare that aims to provide comfort and support to those in the final stages of a terminal illness. Entering hospice requires the patient to be diagnosed with an illness with death expected within six months if the disease follows its typical course. Hospice care is tailored to the individual needs and wishes of the patient and their family. It can occur in a variety of settings, including a patient's home. The focus is on quality of life, rather than quantity. Studies show patients who begin hospice care earlier have a higher quality of life, better pain management and were more likely to have their end-of-life wishes fulfilled.
There's a meme making the rounds with a quote from President Carter: "I have one life and one chance to make it count for something... My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have to try to make a difference."

Co-parenting Conflicts? Be Smart About what You put in Writing
Have a harsh word for your ex? Bite your tongue.
Yes, even if you're furious about how they handled last week's kid exchange. Yes, even if they didn't do what they promised to do. And yes, even if they're entirely in the wrong about... well, everything.
Don't put anything that could reflect poorly on you in a text, email or recording - because the court will look to these documents as a reflection of your character. (And before you come for me, don't do it verbally, either - but that's the topic for another article!).
On the other side of abusive communication? You may want to consider communicating in writing, briefly, to let them know that you're not going to respond to abusive messages going forward. Then - don't.
Judges don't want to pour over dozens of pages of text and email screenshots to see "who started it." You do yourself no favors by responding to abusive or cruel messages in kind. When the abusive messaging is one sided, it's easier for a judge to reprimand the parent who chose not to hold back in communications.
Of course you and your co-parent are going to disagree on things - that's likely why you broke up. And communicating about those disagreements in writing can help take the emotion out of the exchange.
If your court order allows it, text and email can be your co-parenting BFFs. Good co-parenting communication is clear, direct and brief. It's never filled with expletives, threats, name calling, baseless accusations or "drama." Have a serious issue to address and you're not sure how to go about it? Lean on your legal team for support.

The Pride of SCV has Gone National
ALLBRiGHT 1-800-PAINTING Now Opening Nominations for 18th Annual Paint-It-Forward
Already grateful to live in Santa Clarita - a community consistently recognized for its altruism and nonprofit support? Here's another big win that will fuel your hometown pride.
Last month, over 110 painting contractors from around the US gathered in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Paint-It-Forward by working together to serve a community in major need. The Gateway Center, a campus that provides medical, behavioral health and vocational services to at-risk individuals received a much-needed facelift thanks to the volunteers.
How'd that amazing act of kindness get started? Our own local painting contractor, ALLBRiGHT 1-800-PAINTING.
Paint-It-Forward was once a "little local volunteer giveaway" that started in the SCV - but it has gained traction and become a national movement of generosity and neighborly kindness. Since its inception and national implementation, millions of dollars worth of painting services and materials have changed the lives of widows, foster children, domestic violence survivors, differently-abled kids and so many more.
And it all started right here, in Santa Clarita, by Josh Abramson of ALLBRiGHT.
Ready to join the cause? It's so simple. All you need to do is think about the people and organizations in your circle that could use some of ALLBRiGHT's signature "painting happiness" - then spend just a few minutes nominating them online. The selected individual or org will receive up to $25,000 in painting services.
Log on today to take part in this sweet slice of SCV history - and be proud that you're now part of the "painting happiness" movement, too.
