•  No More Bad Pictures! - Do you go out shooting, then come home discouraged because your memory card is full of crappy shots? Do you get discouraged looking at photo magazines and print competitions because everyone else's shots seem better than yours? Or maybe you are pretty happy with your work, but feel a little stalled on a plateau and want to jump-start your creative output. Do you feel as though you have the TECHNIQUES but not the INSPIRATION? This workshop is for you. In a mere three hours, we will explore techniques to find inspiration in your work, and uncork the champagne bottle of your creativity. We will learn tried-and-true techniques first described by Aristotle and refined and adapted by artists ever since. We will do some exercises that will do more to unlock your creativity in 10 minutes than you would believe possible. We will make a date with your Muse. This is not a theoretical class. This is ALL about practical, doable skills that you can put into use immediately. This class gives you a map to becoming a better photographer, and starts you on the journey. Bring a camera, any camera. - David Green instructor $69

•  Film Scanning 101 - Imagine that you've just gotten a brand new Holga, or that you've found a box full of slides and film that you had forgotten about. Now what? Why, scan them, of course! Turn them into digital files that you can easily edit in Lightroom, Photoshop, Aperture, or another image editor. Film scanning is not the horrible chore it's made out to be. Scanning is no more difficult than processing a RAW file in Lightroom or Camera RAW. The controls, and the production goals, are similar. Do it yourself in only a few minutes, save some money, and have fun, too! We'll learn how to organize raw film or slides quickly and easily, choose the winners, and scan them in a way that keeps them organized and easy to find on your computer. Better still, if you have a strong image, you'll find that the print quality will be superb! If you still have a decent flatbed scanner sitting around you can get started right away. If not, there's bunches of them floating around for sale, many at low prices. Even the Epson flatbed series, which were at one time pretty costly, have come way down. We'll cover this from start to finish in about three hours - you should go home ready to start making scans and rescuing that incredible library you have stashed away in the corner of your office! David Saffir is a professional photographer and printmaker. He's been scanning film since long before digital cameras became widely used, and made dozens of award winning prints from originals scanned from 35mm, 120, and 4x5 film. - David Saffir instructor $69
Take both the Holga workshop and the Film Scanning 101 workshop and get a $10 discount.

•  Holga Photography - Includes a Holga 120 camera, 5 rolls of film and a processing mailer. The Holga is a plastic film camera (non-digital!) that has been growing in popularity. It is considered a "toy," yet is used by professional photographers to make beautiful and unique images. It has a cult following among photographers eager to experience the joys and heartache of its distortion, light leaks, vignetting, blur and more. It is the ugly bulldog of cameras: So ugly, it becomes beautiful in a strange way. In this workshop, everyone gets a Holga!, Oprah-style. We then spend some time learning how to modify our cameras to make them a bit more reliable. (Happy accidents are a good thing. Unusable film is not.) Then we'll shoot. Note: In order to have enough cameras on hand, deadline for signing up for this workshop is 5pm, Wednesday, November 3rd! Optional: A week or so following the class, we will meet at Peet's coffee to review your images. David Green instructor $129

•  The Life & Times of Tiburcio Vasquez - Missouri had Jesse James. New Mexico had Billy the Kid. And California in the 1870's had its own Wild West outlaw. Tiburcio Vasquez was regarded by many as a dangerous thief and murderer, but many others idolized him and considered him a modern day Robin Hood. The many faces of California's outlaw will be discussed in a new book to be published this fall called "Bandido. The Life and Times of Tiburcio Vasquez". Author John Boessenecker will discuss his new book and the life of Vasquez before the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society. Held at the Saugus Train Station within William S. •  Do it all in Camera RAW - For most photographers, Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) is a "rest stop" on the way to Photoshop. It is a place to do minor color correction, click "Auto," click "OK" and then on to the big guns. What many photographers don't know is that you can do almost ALL of your editing in Camera RAW without ever having to go into Photoshop! With Adobe Camera RAW, you have the advantage of a non-destructive workflow (which means you can't screw anything up, no matter how hard you try), and no increase in file size. In this workshop, we will work on several images, including your own if you bring them. (Bring up to three images on a thumb drive or CD.) We will review each of the panels of the Adobe Camera RAW application, and the often-unnoticed tool bar where a lot of power is hidden. We will talk about import and export options, and how to work with sub-par images from any camera. Bring your laptop loaded with Adobe Camera RAW from CS4 or CS5. (Either Elements or Photoshop versions of ACR will work, but Elements is limited.) - David Green instructor $69
