Keeping Up with Ken
Q & A with Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Striplin
February, 2023 - Issue #217

Q: What can residents look forward to in 2023?
All the accomplishments and strides the City of Santa Clarita has made since it was first incorporated in 1987 are nothing short of amazing. As the city continues to grow and develop, we have adapted and provided residents with an unparalleled quality of life. This year, residents can look forward to three grand openings tailored to our community's different needs. Recently, the West Creek Park Inclusive Play Area had its grand opening, welcoming residents and visitors of all abilities. This summer, we are excited to complete the Central Park buildout. The project includes the addition of four multipurpose fields, an exercise staircase, additional parking and enhancements to the Central Bark dog park. Later this summer, the Vista Canyon Multi-Modal Transit Center will begin service for both the Santa Clarita Transit bus transfer station and the Vista Canyon Metrolink station. This opening will allow visitors and residents to take advantage of these great transit options. There is so much to look forward to this year and I can't wait to share these great accomplishments with our residents.

"The latest addition includes over 15,000 SQUARE FEET OF PLAY AREA with various inclusive features throughout the facility, including a Bankshot Playcourt with non-conventional angled backboards at 13 stations. There is also a dual-track inclusive zipline, a roller slide and much more."
Q: You mentioned the completion of the West Creek Park Inclusive Play Area. What makes this new play area special?
In 2020, the city proudly opened the first-of-its-kind inclusive play area at Canyon Country Park that welcomes those of all abilities. In 2023, we are proud to have recently opened the second Inclusive Play Area in Santa Clarita at West Creek Park. The latest addition includes over 15,000 square feet of play area with various inclusive features throughout the facility, including a Bankshot Playcourt with non-conventional angled backboards at 13 stations. There is also a dual-track inclusive zipline, a roller slide and much more.
This project has been in the making for some time now and I am proud to see it come to life and be used by community members throughout our city. I encourage you to spend a day with your loved ones at this remarkable park.

Q: Santa Clarita was recently recognized as "Most Business-Friendly City in Los Angeles County." What does this mean for the city?
This past November, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation awarded the City of Santa Clarita the prestigious Most Business-Friendly City in
Los Angeles County award at a special event at SoFi Stadium. The recognition speaks volumes to the value we place on supporting our local economy. The city is a proud partner of our local businesses and we strive to provide the necessary resources to ensure their success in our community. This award wouldn't be possible without the leadership of our city council, efforts from city staff and our partnerships with local business organizations, including the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, Chamber of Commerce and Valley Industry Association.
