Q: Everyone's favorite reading program returns this month, and this year's story is one of intrigue and mystery. How can residents take part in the One Story One City program?
I know that our readers and library fans anxiously await this time of year. One Story One City is back! This program encourages residents to come together for activities, programs and events - all inspired by one book. This year, the book is "The Woman in the Castello" by Kelsey James. This historical fiction novel is set in 1960s Italy. It follows an American actress and single mother who is cast to star in a mysterious horror movie filmed in a medieval castle outside of Rome. This novel will keep you intrigued as you uncover all of its mysteries. Make sure to jot down any questions you have, as you will have a chance to chat with author Kelsey James, who will be hosting a local Q and A session. For the dates and times of all programming, please visit santaclaritalibrary.com. Make sure you check out a copy of "The Woman in the Castello" at your neighborhood Library Branch, so you are ready to jump into the action.
Q: The ever-popular Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival is riding into town soon. What do we need to know to be ready for all the Wild West fun?
The Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival brings our Western heritage to life - thanks to its celebration of everything cowboy culture, incredible musical performances, activities for the whole family - and we can't forget: cowboy peach cobbler! This world-class event captivates attendees by showcasing the sights, sounds and swagger of cowboy life, creating an immersive experience that transports you into the heart of the Old West. This year, we are excited to announce that the festival will return to William S. Hart Park (24151 Newhall Avenue) on April 20 and 21. Along with its picturesque landscape, the park is rich with Western history, as it was once home to local legend William S. Hart. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and guests can explore unique Western apparel, crafts and more from vendors. The 2024 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival at Hart Park will feature returning fan-favorite performers and introduce you to some new ones as well. General admission to the Cowboy Festival is free and a limited number of VIP packages will be available for purchase. "One of the greatest aspects of our city is its diversity. Launched in 2022, Celebrate highlights this diversity by showcasing the WIDE RANGE OF CULTURES that make up Santa Clarita."
Q: Speaking of events, Celebrate and SENSES are also making their return this season. What themes can we expect this year?
One of the greatest aspects of our city is its diversity. Launched in 2022, Celebrate highlights this diversity by showcasing the wide range of cultures that make up Santa Clarita. Celebrate is held at the Canyon Country Community Center every second Friday at 6pm from April through September. Join your friends, family and neighbors to learn about various countries and customs through crafts, music, activities and flavorful on-site food trucks. This year, residents can look forward to learning about and celebrating Brazil, South Korea, Sweden, Cuba, Japan and Germany. For more information about Celebrate, please visit santaclarita.gov/celebrate.
Speaking of celebrating - SENSES Block Parties are also returning at 7pm every third Thursday from March to October. Located in the heart of Old Town Newhall on Main Street, SENSES is the perfect way to enjoy a night out with family and friends. Each month, the block party embraces a new theme with activities and experiences to stimulate all of your senses. Participants can enjoy sweet and savory foods from on-site food trucks or pop into one of their favorite local restaurants. Attendees can also expect to watch live performances, grab a drink from the on-street bar or participate in themed activities.
