Q: The River Rally is just around the corner. What makes this event such a community favorite?
There's something special about seeing hundreds of residents come together with a shared goal of protecting our natural resources. The River Rally has become one of our longest-running volunteer traditions because people can see the impact of their efforts in just a few hours.
This year's 31st Annual River Rally takes place on Saturday, September 19, from 8am to 11am. Since the event began in 1994, volunteers have removed more than 510,000 pounds of trash and debris from the Santa Clara River, helping protect one of Southern California's last natural, free-flowing rivers.
The event welcomes everyone - from families and Scout troops to students, businesses and community organizations. After the cleanup, volunteers can visit the Environmental Expo to learn about recycling, pollution prevention and other ways to help preserve our environment throughout the year.
Whether you're participating for the first time or returning for another year, the River Rally is a great opportunity to spend a Saturday morning giving back alongside your neighbors.

"It's also important to have an EMERGENCY PLAN, know your evacuation routes and keep an emergency supply kit ready should you need to leave quickly."
Q: Just because summer is wrapping up doesn't mean that fire season is over. What should residents remember as we move into fall?
Some of the most destructive wildfires in California history have occurred during the fall - and even winter. While temperatures may begin to cool, Santa Ana winds, low humidity and dry vegetation can create some of the year's most dangerous fire conditions.
The best time to prepare for an emergency is before one happens. Continue clearing dead vegetation around your home, keep roofs and gutters free of leaves and debris and maintain defensible space around your property. It's also important to have an emergency plan, know your evacuation routes and keep an emergency supply kit ready should you need to leave quickly.
The city continues to strengthen emergency preparedness through fuel modification efforts, planning and investments in resources like our new Mobile Command Unit, but emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility. Taking a few simple steps today can make a significant difference when every minute counts.

Q: When is The Rink opening? We've heard all the buzz and are ready to roller skate!
The wait is almost over. The Rink Sports Pavilion is scheduled to open in early October - and excitement has continued to build as construction nears completion.
This new recreation facility was designed to be much more than a roller-skating rink. It will also host basketball, pickleball, volleyball, community programs, birthday parties and special events, giving residents another year-round destination to stay active and spend time with family and friends.
Located next to the Gymnasium at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, The Rink will offer flexible programming for all ages and interests. Whether you're reliving childhood memories on roller skates, trying pickleball for the first time or attending a community event, there will always be something happening.
We'll be sharing details about the grand opening celebration, public skating sessions and recreation programming as we get closer to opening day. I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the city's website and social media channels for the latest announcements.
