It's 100K or Bust for Bras for a Cause
September, 2018 - Issue #168

After 15 years of raising vital funds for SCV residents with breast cancer, it's time for Bras for a Cause to get a lift, padding the hundreds of thousands already raised in a decade and a half with a record-breaking anniversary haul.

"We keep saying, 'It's $100,000 or 'bust,'" jokes Co-chair Denise DaCorsi-Placencio, who joins fellow co-chairs Missy Carter, Tiffany Grummer and Jen Hilton in the effort to boost the long-running event's visibility.

The push for a remarkable night of fundraising revolves around women's intimates; since its inception, over a thousand decorative bras have been auctioned at the event, many accompanied by high-end additions like sporting tickets, designer accessories and self-care treats.

The bras, many of which will be live modeled the night of the event, are a kaleidoscope of colors, textures and high-fem glam. Heavy doses of rhinestones, glitter, pins, ribbon and crystals are applied for maximum wow factor. "Some buyers wear their bras to other public events, but most are used for display," says DaCorsi-Placencio. "This year, we have some absolutely exquisite entries. There's a stunning Chanel bra that we're expecting to break auction records; it's girlie, bold and beautiful. And I love our iron-and-leather warrior bra that looks like it came right out of the 'Gladiator' movie. It perfectly summarizes the strength of character women fighting cancer so often embody. It's an amazing piece of art."

Bras for a Cause is a Slinky Date Night Surprise
For the first time ever, Bras for a Cause will be held in the evening, making it a more formal affair - and one that's perfect for a flirty, fun night on the town. The black-and-white themed event will be held under the stars at Valencia Country Club on Saturday, September 15 from 5:30pm to 10pm. A sensuous dinner, titillating entertainment, a live-modeled bra show are included in the ticket price. A large portion of the funds raised will be donated locally to the Sheila R. Veloz Imaging Center at Henry Mayo Hospital and Circle of Hope.
