New City Library Cards Now Available
On July 1, our three local libraries will be under the ownership and management of the City of Santa Clarita and have the benefit of a new partnership with LSSI, a professional library management services company that currently provides services to 13 public library systems and 63 branch operations across the country, including the Library of Congress. Santa Clarita residents will need to obtain a new City library card by completing an online application at To receive a new City library card, residents will need to show either a valid California Driver License or a valid California identification card with a current address, or two forms of identification, one showing the individuals' identity and the other indicating the mailing address in California.

In the month of June, the city has scheduled opportunities for residents to receive their new City library card prior to the July 1 opening date. These include:

Mr. Biggs is a very curious Sasquatch who has huge feet and an even bigger heart. One day, when he climbs to the tippy-top of the tallest tree in the forest, he spots a city.

Join Mr. Biggs on his journey as he tries to shred on a skateboard, jam in a rock band, twirl in a tutu and much, much more. Will the giant Mr. Biggs find out that he fits in the city - or is he just too big?

"Mr. Biggs in the City" is a hilarious and heartwarming story for both the young and young at heart. Vividly-wacky illustrations will make you laugh out loud with every turn of the page and will make you grateful that the kind Mr. Biggs really loves kids.

Says William Haase, 4, Inside SCV Magazine's Preschool Book Critic at Large, "This story is a funny one! I like the hairy guy because he does silly things. He's nice, though, and doesn't want to eat kids. He wants to play with them instead. I was sad when Mr. Biggs cried because he didn't think he fit in, but it's OK now because he has a lot of friends. The pictures in this book are really good. My favorite is the one where Mr. Biggs leaves big footprints in the cement in the park because he's too heavy. This is one of my favorite stories. My little sister likes it, too because she likes to look at the silly squirrel who goes on the adventure with Mr. Biggs. He's very funny, especially when he uses binoculars."

The book, available in English-only and an English-Spanish version, too, is written and illustrated by SCV resident (and "superdad!") Kevin Bloomfield. Meet him at Barnes & Noble in Valencia at 3 p.m. for a book signing; 254-6604
