"Flashback to the '80s" Auction Scheduled for June 4
May, 2011 - Issue #79
Auction Scheduled for June 4
Auction Scheduled for June 4
"This is a special year for our auction," says Ronda Chobanian, the Boys & Girls Club's foundation development director. "Tony [Newhall] was our first auction chair, in 1972. He's returning as co-chair - with his lovely wife Reena - for our annual event. We're excited about honoring those who have been involved with the Club the past 40 years and we look forward to providing continued service to the teens and kids in the SCV."

Themed "Thriller - A Flashback to the '80s," this auction promises more excitement than ever. New, creative live and silent auction items will be up for grabs. Energetic live entertainment will combine with the comfort of an indoor location (for the first time in six years!). A gourmet dinner will be served by Salt Creek Grille, with a buffet created by Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Company.

Back by popular demand is the "Win Any Live Auction Item" raffle. For a $100 raffle purchase, you get the chance to take any of the spectacular trips, jewelry, sports memorabilia or adventures on the live-auction list. There is no limit to how many raffle tickets you can purchase. Good luck!

A Blast from Auction Past
Auction's Founder takes Title of Co-chair 40 Years Later
"Chairing the Boys & Girls Club Auction this year is a landmark for us. It seems like yesterday when our group sat down in 1972 and created this event to save our fledging youth club (then only four years old). We put together items that money couldn't buy - a dinner with our County supervisor, a ride in the Goodyear blimp, and a street named after you, and we staged the first auction in a local motel banquet room. It brought in $4,500 - we were thrilled! This June, our Boys & Girls Club will host its 40th-annual Auction, and this event will include dinner, music, costumes and dancing. Titled 'Thriller - a Flashback to the '80s,' it will feature the excitement, fun, and thrills of the decade - when we were all younger and carefree. We're inviting the community to celebrate with us as we commemorate this anniversary and 40 years of helping kids!"

The Newhall Clubhouse Flood Tragedy
The Boys & Girls Club of SCV sustained major damage in torrential rain on Sunday, March 20. Unfortunately, the Club's insurance does not cover rising water flood damage. While the extent of the structural damage is still being assessed, this is what is certain:

• the Teen Room is a total loss, with video games, refrigerator and couches destroyed

• hundreds of square yards of damaged carpet had to be removed

• vast amounts of drywall have been removed and requires repair

• painting is required once drywall is replaced

This auction is now more important than ever. Your auction donation and support are essential to helping rebuild the Club for the thousands of children who rely on it each year. To make a donation specifically for flood repair damage, or if you can help restore the building, please visit the website or call today.
