The origins of this curious waffle come from the streets of Hong Kong. Also known as the egg waffle or gai daan jai - which translates to "little chicken egg" - these waffles are among the most popular Hong Kong "street snacks"... and now Chyll's Castaic restaurant is serving them as a breakfast combo with eggs, bacon and potatoes. Chyll in Castaic is open daily at 7am for breakfast.

What we Ate
"Our February was packed with business meetings - three of them during the breakfast hour. Each time, we treated our clients to Marston's, which means we treated ourselves. The on-point waitstaff knew my order every time: Pulled Pork Benedict. It's my favorite thing to eat, ever. Two poached eggs and tender barbecued pork top toasty English muffins and it's all generously slathered with the most delicious spicy hollandaise sauce. It's served with savory house potatoes. I dream of this dish!"

"'Don't forget, meeting at Marston's at 8:45am' is the only work-related email I get at 10pm that doesn't give me anxiety! I'm also guilty of ordering the exact same thing every time, but that's only because the Huevos Rancheros are a delicious, healthy start to my day. Black beans, pastured eggs, pico de gallo, avocado, corn tortillas!? It's a protein punch that powers me through. I go dairy free, but cheddar and sour cream come standard, too.
