MESSAGES FROM THE CLASS OF 2020
June, 2020 - Issue #189

Wildfire closures, a campus shooting and the COVID-19 pandemic. How can these events manifest positive change in your life? A common reaction suggests, 'Why us? Why now?' My reaction is this: 'Through greatest trials often comes greatest growth - always count your blessings.'
Faith Bolde, SHS

Don't let today's society keep you out of reach from reality. Go for your goals and achieve them!
Katie Dervin, WRHS

This last year of high school has changed my outlook on the world in a positive way by being realistic about my expectations of it. I have to rise above difficult situations and make my own path.
Noah Wiles, HHS

This year has taught me to treasure every day. Our class has been through a lot, but the obstacles have helped me grow and mature. I don't sweat the small stuff, and I'm learning to love myself and enjoy the present.
Breeana San Lucas,
SHS

I'm most proud of the community I've built by doing things I love. I started the student senate program, made a national collaborative documentary, served as Executive Vice President, and developed connections with thousands of other student leaders across California.
- Neiko Pittman, WRHS

This year has changed my attitude in a
positive way by showing me that I need to put my
head down and push through the hard times because
my attitude and actions affect my future.
Paul Coleman, CHS

This year's experiences changed me in a positive way because I realized we must make things happen based on our timeline - and enjoy every moment we get, since it can all change in the blink of an eye.
Sian Moon, WRHS

"I want to thank my amazing dad, Thijs Menzel. He has been my support since day one, and he has pushed me to do my best and be the best person I could be. The amount of appreciation and gratitude I have for him is indescribable. He's so caring, funny, hardworking, patient and a great dad to his two daughters. I wouldn't be the person I am today without him. I love you, Dad, so much."
Grace Menzel, VHS

I am extremely thankful to my family & friends for making high school a great experience. Their love and support have prepared me to succeed both in college and in life.
Matthew Mikhail, VHS

Any 2020 grad is going to have a story to tell for the rest of their lives. It can be a positive story or a negative one, but we get to decide. I know which one mine is going to be.
- Zach Swift, SHS

"I would like to thank both of my parents for shaping me into the person I am today. Their motto is: 'Work hard, play hard.' And that's what I do everyday."
Max Bjorkman, HHS

"This whole pandemic, while upsetting, makes you realize all the good times we've had. I'm grateful to have competed on varsity golf, for cheering at all the football games, and for my incredible friends who made high school what it was."
Jackie Rendall, VHS
"I want to thank my mom and dad for the endless support, encouragement and strength to get me through this crazy year. As one chapter is coming to a close, I am looking forward to the next with my family and friends by my side."
Cade Gallagher, SHS

"What I would like to share with the world is that my senior year was shaped in ways I could have never imagined: fires, violence, mental illness, pandemic, distance learning and cancellation. But what learned about myself is that I am stronger than any of those things. So I am just grateful."
Rachel Chobanian, HHS

"Although we've been through a lot this year, I've learned to always live everyday like it's your last and to never take life for granted."
Emma Enright, SHS

"I would like to thank both my dad and mom for always being there for me throughout my journey of growing up. They always showed me what was right and were by my side through everything. I'm very grateful for that."
Matt Striplin, WRHS
"This was a year of firsts and lasts. Last year of high school and my first pandemic. This last year positively changed me due to the fact I learned how precious time is and how much I appreciate what I have."
Katelyn Mann, WRHS

I think the accomplishment I'm most proud of is becoming a section leader in show choir. Being in choir for four years was hard work but very rewarding, and my leadership role shows how much I've improved.
Ally Rupp, HHS

"I did it! I've worked hard and relentlessly so I could get to this point in my life. I am very proud of myself for overcoming the many obstacles I've encountered while doing it all with a smile on my face and holding my head high. Even though senior year came to a quick end, I'm happy and grateful for the memories and friends I've made!"
Geneva Reyes, HHS

"It was an honor and privilege to coach each of the seniors of Canyon Softball Team 48. Rarely as a coach are you able to be surrounded by student athletes who are close-knit, hard working and never forget to have fun along the way. That certainly was the case this year. I wish each of them the best and hope our paths cross again in the future as they make their marks on the world."
Scott Goodspeed, Softball Head Coach, CHS

"This last year has shown me a lot. However, the one rule I made for myself this year was to just enjoy and experience everything in the moment. I am very grateful and happy to be able to say that I have been able to do that throughout my senior year."
Delaney Cruse, WRHS
