Teach Gratitude for Teeth
Lots of parents help their children learn to count their blessings, especially this time of year, but few probably do it while brushing their teeth! "We want kids to be aware of the importance of a healthy mouth and good oral hygiene practices," says Becky Short, office manager for Dr. Marvin Tong, DDS. "As a parent, I know that when you 'lecture' kids, it's often in one ear and out the other." That's why the mom of two began working in affirmations when helping her children manage their oral care. "I'd say, 'I'm so grateful your teeth are healthy and strong,' 'I love to see you smile,' 'It's wonderful to floss our teeth and keep them clean,' that sort of thing. I noticed that it became second nature for me and, as my kids grew older, they had a very positive outlook on oral care overall and generally stuck to it on their own when they were old enough," says the longtime Valencia dental office pro. Good oral care practices don't just keep our mouths healthy - it can affect our entire bodies, even our heart health. Helping kids have a positive mindset about their oral care certainly can't hurt - and might set them up for a lifetime of better oral hygiene!

"Jaeselle joined Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts in the Spring of 2025. At first, I was skeptical. Who was calling to interview my child and pitch yet another sales package for 'acting classes?' Yet, Mike convinced me that his school could not only help build my daughter's skills but that he could consistently offer the opportunity for her to get in front of agents and see progress. He has not disappointed us in that commitment to her success. She enjoys her time, which has built her confidence to continue to pursue her dreams in modeling and acting. With flexible opportunities for both in person and online classes and auditions, we could not pass this amazing opportunity by - and thank goodness we signed her up! In less than three months, Jaeselle felt confident enough to audition for a commercial acting opportunity. She was nervous, but she was able to incorporate the skills from her acting classes and she completed her first audition! She also received incredibly-helpful feedback from the agent, inspiring her to continue to progress. For those of us who believe in putting in the work, being grateful for amazing opportunities and taking advantage of those opportunities to build success and lasting self-empowerment, this is a place for you."

The Master's University Hires Accomplished West Ranch Grad as Music Professor
by Kaelyn Peay
Dr. Gwang Kim has joined the faculty of The Master's University as an assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies. An accomplished trombonist, Kim is joining TMU after years of experience as a music performer and teacher. He has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, while also teaching courses at Concordia University Irvine, Fresno State, Loyola Marymount University and Ventura College.
"While I greatly enjoyed performing, the Lord gradually redirected my heart toward the joy and eternal significance of teaching and discipleship - particularly in a Christ-centered academic environment like TMU," Kim says. He graduated from West Ranch High School, earned his undergraduate degree from USC and then went on to graduate and doctoral studies at UCLA. Kim serves in young adult ministry at church and he is excited for additional opportunities to disciple the next generation through his new role at TMU.
"To walk alongside young men and women of faith, equipping them to glorify God through musical excellence, is a privilege and responsibility that I do not take lightly," Kim says. "I look forward to helping students grow both in their craft and in their understanding of how music can be used to magnify Christ."
