Feeling Campy
May, 2020 - Issue #188

This summer promises something for every kid and every interest. Start dreaming of better days with an all-star line-up of local summer camps.

For the Adventurer:
Bask In the Sunshine with Field Trips, Themes & More

For incoming Kinder through sixth graders, Sunshine's summer camp is the place to be! With two field trips a week - such as kid-favorites like the Santa Barbara Zoo, Magic Mountain and the Aquarium of the Pacific - included in the cost of tuition, this is the camp for children who love adventures. Even non-field-trip days are a blast, thanks to daily themes with six activities to keep it interesting, like art, science, inside games, outside games and more. Help your kids make memories that will last a lifetime with caring, experienced counselors and programming that will keep even the biggest adventurer entertained all summer long.

For the Outdoors Lover:
Re-acclimate with the Classic Kids Camp Experience

Families across the country are learning how to deal with their children being at home through the Stay at Home directive during the COVID-19 outbreak. Parents are doing their best to educate, entertain and comfort their children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for weeks on end. However, when we come out of this situation, kids and their parents will need options and tools for their children to re-acclimatize back to a sense of "normalcy."
Children will need tools and guidance as they return to their routines and social lives after being isolated from their friends, neighbors and classmates for so long. Parents will need supervision for their children as they go back to the workplace, and other parents will just need a break.
Summer camp will be the best-kept secret for families once we all start getting back to normal because it provides an opportunity for children to socialize, play and grow in a safe and controlled environment led by leaders and mentors. While at camp, children have the opportunity to be with their friends, gain new skills and simply be a kid again.
However, the choices and options will be limited as the economic impact, lack of prep time and guidance by the health department will affect the options and choices available. Parents need to plan ahead during this time of uncertainty as capacities may be limited based on guidance and best practices, qualified staff and the number of families that enrolled prior to the pandemic.
Valley Trails Summer Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association and is working with the LA County Health Department to follow best practices and guidelines and provide a safe and healthy camp experience. Valley Trails Summer Camp plans to operate this summer, once the green light has been given to do so safely. Online enrollment is available.

For the Performer:
Summer SHOW Fun at CTG!

If your child knows that life's a stage, then all of their summer days should be spent at the Canyon Theatre Guild. Four age-based workshops invite youths to expand their imaginations, make friends, learn teamwork, put on amazing shows and most of all... have FUN! Each workshop is a true theatrical experience with singing, dancing, costumes, makeup, props, sets and lights - all on the working main stage! Professional artists direct students in a safe and supportive atmosphere that nurtures self-confidence, sense of community and self-expression. Plus it's a great way to beat the heat!
Your littles from Pre-K to age 6 years old will sing, dance and hoof around in the adorable performance of "A Barnyard Moosical!" In this play, we meet gourmet goats, a chorus line of hoofing cows, neatnik pigs and funky dancing chickens. This musical playlet is specifically designed for primary-age students.
Coldness and cruelty have settled on the land! In "Return of the Fairy Tale Advice Council," it's up to the Fairy Tale Advice Council to teach our favorite folk tale characters a bit of compassion and empathy for their fellow kingdom dwellers! This kiddo favorite is for reading age to 10 years old.
If your child is a die-hard gamer, they will love "Press Start!" This brand new musical is filled with the heroes, villains and sidekicks we know and love! When the famous characters run out of lives, they put on a show to play on, and of course, things go awry in this bright, pixelated world of video games perfect for ages 10-13.
It's a whole new world as the Jack Oakie Stars Program presents "Disney's Aladdin Jr." The story you know and love comes to life with expanded characters, new songs and more thrills. This new adaptation of the story will thrill students, ages 13-18 and audience members alike!
All CTG's summer workshops offer sibling discounts, and some scholarships are available through the SCV Boys & Girls Club.
