Offering Exceptional Care & Convenience
January, 2012 - Issue #87
Primary & Specialist Care in Your Own Neighborhood
Facey Medical Group has been part of Santa Clarita since the 1960s, caring for generations of families as they grow. Facey is a unique medical group that employs both specialists and primary care doctors (such as pediatricians and family practice) at their offices. This provides patients with a level of convenience that can't be matched by the competition.

While other medical groups may send you to a different city for specialist care, Facey provides these services and more at five convenient Santa Clarita locations. They have more than 35 specialists in 18 different fields, all ready to help when you need care that goes beyond the scope of general medicine.

And since Facey isn't an insurance company, their physicians accept many different health insurance plans. Your insurance may require you to have a referral from a primary care provider before making an appointment with a specialist. If you'd like to see a Facey specialist but aren't sure if you can, simply call any of their offices and their friendly team will be happy to answer your questions.

Facey is happy to welcome their newest board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. Daisy Markley, to the Copper Hill office as of January 1, 2012. Dr. Markley has practiced in California for over 10 years and performed her residency at Stamford hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Markley, call the number here;

Henry Mayo Obtains Nuclear and
CT Imaging National Accreditation

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital's Nuclear Medicine and CT Imaging services recently obtained the prestigious ACR (American College of Radiology) accreditation.

Nuclear and CT services met ACR's rigorous standards to achieve these designations, including changes in policies and procedures, developing protocols and a process for peer review. The imaging quality produced from the machines is reviewed, along with the credentials of the staff and physicians. The accreditation program involves acquiring clinical and phantom images for CT dose measurement and submission of scanning protocols. In addition, physicians and technologists must meet continuing education and experience requirements.

"This honor is highly acclaimed for our Nuclear Medicine and CT departments," said Connie Hage CRA, director of Cardiology and Imaging Services. "It takes a great deal of quality imaging, document adjustments and staff time to achieve these awards. Our accreditations are documenting the proof that we are offering superior imaging capabilities"; 253-8000 www.henrymayo.com

Antelope Valley Hospital Announces Robotic Urology Program Partnership with USC
Antelope Valley Hospital has entered into a partnership with the Keck Doctors of USC to provide robotic surgery for urologic cancers using the da Vinci Si surgical robot at AV Hospital. The local robotic urology program will provide advanced surgical options for patients who will no longer need to travel long distances for care.

There are numerous benefits of robotic surgery including a shorter hospital stay, fewer complications, smaller incisions, less scarring, faster healing, decreased risk of injury to nearby organs, less blood loss, less pain, less need for pain medication and a quicker return to normal activity and work.

Inderbir S. Gill, MD, an internationally recognized leader in the field of robotic and laparoscopic surgery for urologic cancers, will serve as the medical director of the AV Hospital Urology Center of Robotic Surgery. "I am excited to embark on this partnership," said Dr. Gill. "We are providing a full team presence through our partnership with Dr. Tim Hadaya and Dr. Steve Koh." Dr. Gill is also the director of the USC Institute of Urology. Dr. Hadaya is the medical director of the Department of Urology at AV Hospital.

"Dr. Gill's leadership combined with the experience of Dr. Hadaya and Dr. Koh will ensure patients receive the best, most advanced care available," says Edward Mirzabegian, CEO of Antelope Valley Hospital.

Celebrating more than 50 years of caring for the community, Antelope Valley Hospital, a facility of Antelope Valley Healthcare District, is a non-profit, 420-bed hospital that was founded in 1955. AV Hospital is located at 1600 West Avenue J in Lancaster; 949-5000 www.avhospital.org
