The Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphatic drainage utilizes soothing, gentle, rhythmical, precise massage-like movements to accelerate the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body. The lymph system is only pumped by the movements of your body and there are times when this system needs manual assistance. Certain medical conditions, bruising and especially trauma and surgery can cause interference with the functioning of the lymphatic system. This can result in swelling (lymphedema) in your limbs and elsewhere in the body. Lymphatic drainage techniques move the fluids, relieve the pressure, encourage a healthier immune system and support the natural healing processes of the body. Often, there is an immediate improvement, although a series of treatments may be needed as you heal.

Attention Pregnant Moms:
Increase your Water Intake as the Weather Warms Up
Water is essential for a healthy pregnancy. Drinking at least
96 ounces of water a day is recommended for pregnant women. The number-one cause for preterm labor is dehydration. How many women do you know who had to go to the emergency room sometime during their pregnancy because they were contracting prematurely? Usually, the ER will put Mom on IV fluids and send her home. If you struggle with plain H2O, add a splash of lemon or swap some glasses with a non-caffeinated herbal tea. Bottoms up!

Newest Advances Shape Hearing Solutions to your Life
by Nola Aronson, MA
I was lucky enough to be among the more than 1,000 leading US hearing-care professionals who attended "Make it Personal," a professional conference that looked beyond traditional approaches to explore the latest advances in highly-personalized hearing solutions. Held in New Orleans, the two-day knowledge-sharing event focused on new and better ways for hearing-care professionals to factor more personal dimensions into each fitting for a hearing solution that is as unique as each patient.
The way people experience sound is as individual as a fingerprint. We all have our own hearing preferences. It has to do with how the individual brain "hears." This uniqueness is especially important to people coping with hearing loss.

At the conference, I was introduced to a discreet new hearing solution, Oticon Alta, that enables hearing-care professionals to map individual needs and preferences to deliver a highly-personalized hearing solution that meets each user's unique hearing requirements. Unlike ordinary hearing aids that assume the same setting will work for everyone, Alta works in harmony with the user's brain so they can differentiate sounds and hear more clearly, even as they move from one difficult listening situation to another.

With Alta, people can join more easily in conversation in noisy situations, such as restaurants, when a number of people are speaking. Alta's advanced technology allows users to easily follow conversations that come from different directions and adjusts automatically as they turn from one conversation to another.

Alta is available in a variety of small and sleek styles to suit individual preferences. With the addition of the integrated Oticon ConnectLine system, Alta users can also connect easily and wirelessly to landline and cell phones, office phones, TVs, music, video chatting and streaming, teleloop systems, FM and more.
