What is Osteoarthritis of the Hip & Knee Joint?
Well, in a phrase: "Not the best of news." This degenerative joint disease occurs when your joint's surface cartilage wears away, leaving the raw bone beneath it exposed. With the "pad" gone, the now-roughed joint surface causes stiffness and pain. Often, this discomfort can be managed with rest, modifications in activity, anti-inflammatory meds, joint injections or ice. But as the damage progresses, the pain often becomes less responsive to these interventions and surgery gets put on the table. Total joint replacement surgery - including anterior hip replacement surgery - are options that can help you get back to life again. These procedures can be performed with minimally-invasive techniques by a select group of practiced surgeons.

Boost your Health at Home with a Far Infrared Sauna
You probably already know that far infrared saunas have been scientifically proven to do a whole host of amazing things, from smoothing cellulite and burning big calories to improving respiratory complaints, calming auto-immune disease symptoms, boosting collagen, increasing muscle-recovery speed, remarkably ridding bodies of acne and reducing the severity and length of illness. In fact, there's a good chance you've even experienced the stress and anxiety relief a top-quality far infrared sauna can provide at Organic Sweat Shack on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.

Wouldn't it be lovely to have full access to the health-promoting characteristics of an Organic Sweat Shack sauna of your very own? Now it can be a reality. Organic Sweat Shack is now selling their far infrared sauna line directly to consumers at prices lower than you'll even find online. Luxury saunas start at $2,195; an exceptional rate, considering that good health is priceless.

Imagine going straight from your sauna to your shower - and then bed - to tackle insomnia. Picture the relief on your child's face when the deeply-penetrating infrared heat loosens their chest cough so that they can comfortably rest. Consider the pain reduction your partner will experience in their back, neck and shoulders after a quick sweat after work. Think about how good it will feel to again have the energy your auto-immune illness robbed you of.
All this and more is possible when you join the dozens of SCV residents who've recently purchased their own Organic Sweat Shack saunas.

Taking Away the Keys
Is there a loved one in your life who, perhaps, should no longer be driving? Are you preparing for a stressful conversation about taking away the keys? If so, remember: It's best to maintain a sense of trust in your relationship; be honest and persistent. Encourage the person to make a decision to reduce or stop driving as appropriate and be aware that people who lose their privilege of driving often feel lonely or anxious because they have fewer opportunities to be with friends or become involved in activities. If the person will not listen to reason, you may want to discuss the problem with their doctor to find out if there are any medical issues that should be reported. Most areas have alternative means of transportation; help your loved one identify options so that they don't lose out on the sense of autonomy that comes with "getting yourself from Point A to Point B." Remember to be sensitive to their feelings. Expect some emotional reactions and do what you can to help them through this trying time.

Three Ways to Avoid Frailty
We know frailty increases the risk of illness and falls. But frailty and aging don't go hand in hand if you follow three simple rules to keep your chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes under control.

1. Be physically active every day.
Fitness classes are nice, but not for everyone; 30 minutes of walking - just 10 minutes at a time - can keep your muscle mass from depleting and help you improve your strength and stamina.

2. Eat well.
Three to six healthy meals or snacks per day that include protein, vegetables, fruits and whole grains will reduce your weakness and give you more energy.

3. Keep your mind active, too.
Read, do puzzles, stay socially connected - even volunteer, if possible.

Need help with this? The caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care are there to provide the motivation, expertise and that pair of helping hands to keep you strong and independent.

One of these amazing devices comes in the form of Bluetooth hearing aids. In the past, you were unable to enjoy music while exercising or taking a phone call without completely removing your hearing aid. With Bluetooth hearing aids, you are now able to do all of this and more - at the touch of a button.
Bluetooth is an amazing invention that transfers data from one device to another, using radio waves to transfer the data without security issues or issues with the sound quality. The best part? Bluetooth works with millions of devices and is the gold standard for data transfers - including your cell phone, iPads, iPhones and even TVs.
