Holiday Boutique Benefiting SCV Relay For Life
As we know, cancer does not pause, even for a pandemic, and funds must continue to be raised for research, programs and services. Toward that end, volunteers from SCV Relay For Life are excited to host a festive event - the annual Holiday Boutique Fundraiser. The Holiday Boutique will be held on Saturday November 21, from 10am to 3pm at The United Methodist Church located at 26640 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Visitors are invited to get into the holiday spirit and find those perfect gifts for loved ones. The event will feature aisles of unique and handcrafted clothing, blankets, jewelry, gift cards, home decor, kitchen couture, woodwork, holiday decorations and more.
The event will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of guests. Booths will be spaced appropriately, both inside and outside on the patio. Protocols for masks, social distancing and one-way entrances and exits must be followed. It promises to be a delightful way to ring in the holiday season.

Varicose Veins & Pregnancy
There are many risk factors for varicose veins - one of them is pregnancy. Women undergo significant physiological changes with pregnancy. Increased blood volume and hormonal changes cause the veins to dilate. In addition, a gravid uterus exerts downward pressure on the leg veins. Many women can develop bulging varicose veins during their pregnancy.
Fortunately, these may regress once the baby is delivered. However in some women, they may remain and, unfortunately, may worsen with subsequent pregnancies. This can cause leg pain, aching, cramping, fatigue and restless legs. Fortunately, the treatment for varicose veins is very effective and minimally invasive.
The bulging varicose veins are usually an outward manifestation of underlying venous reflux. The blood flow in the veins, instead of moving back toward the heart, falls back down toward the feet. This causes backward flow in the varicose branches. The refluxing vein can be treated with a radiofrequency catheter that seals the vein permanently. The unsightly varicose veins can then be removed with tiny incisions. Both of these can be done comfortably in the office under local anesthesia.
At the LA Vein Center in Sherman Oaks, Dr. Larisse Lee, a Stanford and Harvard board-certified vascular and general surgeon, offers all of these treatments. They perform an in-house ultrasound evaluation with a registered vascular technologist so a rapid diagnosis can be made. They evaluate every patient thoroughly and tailor a treatment plan according to the individual's needs.

Mask Up Confidently with the Right Makeup
Since face masks are not going to be going away anytime soon, the emphasis is on our eyes.
Smoky eyes are a go-to look for this holiday season. You can use greys or browns, or take a more creative approach and try new colors like purple or mauve for your smoky-eye look.
Go bold with a heavy-lined eye or keep it simple with a thin-winged look. Use classic black or brown, or change it up with white, blue or green liner.
Use a specialized eye primer no matter what look you choose before applying your makeup so that your look stays in place.

Don't Let COVID-19 Ruin Your Holiday
2020 will not be like any other year in regard to holiday celebrations, but we Americans are a hardy bunch! If we're all willing to sacrifice a little, and use our creativity, we can still enjoy the spirit of the holidays.
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has issued some common-sense guidance on how to stay safe and still be happy! Take Thanksgiving, for example. The CDC recommends having a small dinner with just the people closest to you, including your senior loved ones. You could host a virtual dinner with extended family and shop online rather than interacting closely with people outside of your usual circle. The CDC discourages traditional Thanksgiving festivities like going to parades, going shopping or doing a turkey trot race. Even having a small outdoor dinner with extended family is considered "moderate" risk, per the CDC.
Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, says it's important to have candid conversations with friends and families ahead of holiday celebrations. "It's a good idea to find out if all the participants have been on the same page in regard to safety," he says. "It would not be a good idea to have older, very safe people suddenly have a lot of close contact indoors over prolonged periods of time with family members who have been going to bars and not caring very much about COVID-19."

Avoid those "No New Patient" Blues
Because of new safety protocols, many smaller dental practices are struggling to make room in their schedules for existing patients - and new patients? Forget it! If you're looking for a new dental-care home, Santa Clarita Advanced Dentistry's practice has expanded hours and care spaces to accommodate everyone - including new patients!

Virtual Show Benefiting Adults with Disabilities
Major Impact Theater is a non-profit theater group that parodies plays for performance by adults with disabilities in the Santa Clarita Valley. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were unable to hold their in-person theater productions in May or November of this year. But the creative team, along with the board of directors, wanted to be able to use the opportunity to pivot around the challenges of social distancing and other safety measures.
The actors have stepped up to the challenge of Zoom rehearsals and filming and are very excited to be a part of their virtual performance: "MIT News."
"MIT News" will be a series of short skits, similar in format to "Saturday Night Live," parodying the current state of affairs in our country. It will stream on Facebook Live and YouTube on December 12 at 7pm. The free streaming event details can be found online. Please support these talented actors with your attendance.
