Soroptimist International of Valencia Presents
Bras for a Cause to Support Local Breast Cancer Patients

Soroptimist International of Valencia's annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser "Bras for a Cause" returns September 24. Now in its 19th year, the event's theme is "Masquerade Gala." As in past years, the event will feature live models displaying hand-decorated themed bras paired with live-auction baskets. This event benefits women and girls in the community, including the support and treatment of breast cancer patients at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center and Circle of Hope, local organizations that help women in Santa Clarita pay for mammograms and breast cancer treatment.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Launches Girl Talk Women's Health Series
In June, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital launched Girl Talk, a women's health series designed to connect women with medical experts at Henry Mayo in a social and informative environment.
The first Girl Talk focused on breast health and featured Henry Mayo and University of Southern California breast surgeon Amanda Woodworth, MD
and lead radiologist at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center Anajli Date, MD. Community members enjoyed appetizers and beverages while submitting questions to the physicians anonymously. "We're pleased the first Girl Talk was so successful. Attendees were grateful for the opportunity to get their breast health questions answered in a fun, relaxed environment. We look forward to presenting new Girl Talk events in the coming months," said Adrienne Thompson, Henry Mayo community events coordinator at Henry Mayo. More than 50 women attended the first Girl Talk event. Some topics discussed included how to efficiently administer self-breast exams, when to begin scheduling annual mammograms, how to screen for breast cancer with implants, and what steps to take if you're considered high-risk for breast cancer.

"I went to Dr. Moza to have my second spinal fusion done after my bones didn't fully grow back from my first fusion by a different doctor that resulted in a broken screw in my spine. Dr. Moza and Yvonne made me feel like I had family members taking care of me through the entire experience. The surgery itself alleviated the pain I felt due to the broken screw. Dr. Moza called me the night after my surgery to ensure I was doing okay, they checked in on me often and were always readily available to answer any questions and assist me with any concern I had. If you get surgery done here, it will be by an amazing surgeon with a great staff that will help make something like major surgery a fairly easy experience."

High Efficacy Laser & Better Pedicures for Fungal Nails
The Erchonia Lunula Laser is a revolutionary low-level laser therapy bringing new hope to people suffering from Fungal Nails (onychomycosis). Antifungal topicals have a low success rate, requiring application daily for one year and oral antifungals are known to potentially cause problems with your liver. The Lunula Laser is safe, effective and is the first and only non-thermal laser to receive FDA 510(k) Market Clearance for new clear nail growth. Lunula Laser poses none of the risks and harmful side effects of thermal lasers and is painless. This laser has an FDA documented 89 percent success rate - there is no other laser with higher documented results!
There has been a rise in fungal nails in the last decade, with many of the infections caused by salon pedicures. Valencia Foot and Ankle Center is now offering safe, stress free, no-risk medical pedicures by a podiatric technician. Your pedicure will be similar to what you would get in a spa setting, lasts about 45 minutes and includes having your nails painted. Schedule yours now for the introductory price at $79, normally $99.

Are You Aging Well?
Healthy aging means continually reinventing yourself as you pass through landmark ages like 50, 60, 70, 80 and beyond. It takes planning and effort to find new things you enjoy, to adapt to change, to stay physically and socially active and to remain, as much as possible, financially independent.
According to the Social Security Administration, a healthy 65-year-old woman has a very good chance of living to age 86 and a 65-year-old man has a good chance of reaching age 84 - so older adults need to plan for a retirement that could last 20 years or more. Fortunately, the National Council on Aging has developed a great digital tool called the AgeWellPlanner, which offers expert guidance to help you age with confidence. There's an assessment guide to calculate your Medicare costs, plus a direct link to an enrollment specialist for personalized Medicare advice. And, you can even do your own Benefits CheckUp to look up statewide assistance programs for help with housing, internet connectivity, VA benefits, property tax postponement programs, even weatherization assistance to get you through California's long, hot summer. Aging well is something all of us deserve. If you need more information, call the Healthy Aging experts at Home Instead.
