According to Harvard Medical School, a whole lot of retirees find that living the "ideal" lifestyle, minus work, is significantly less than fabulous. In fact, it can be downright stressful. So, what's the fix? According to the MIT AgeLab, it all comes down to individualized "Longevity Planning." When retirement was shorter, it was all about leisure, but now that we're living longer, the key is how we see ourselves and what we want to do with our lives once we stop working. Instead of a short period earmarked purely for leisure and travel, retirement in the future will be an increasingly dynamic one, in which people might have different part-time gigs and find other ways to stay happy and engaged. If retirement does sound attractive, then take time to plan before you leave your workplace behind. The MIT AgeLab is a good place to start.

Spider Veins & How to Treat Them
Spider veins are fine, unsightly, red or purple veins found on the surface of the skin. They are different from varicose veins that can occur on the face and trunk but are most commonly found on the legs. They are sometimes caused by venous reflux. This is a condition in the superficial leg veins where the vein valves weaken and allow blood to pool in the legs. Heredity, hormonal influences, standing occupation, pregnancy, age and weight gain can all play a factor and increase the risk of developing spider veins. While more common in women, men are also at risk. You can get spider veins at any age, but the risk of it goes up as you get older. The best treatment for spider veins is sclerotherapy. This is a series of injections that seals and dissolves the vein. The chemical injected injures the lining of the vein and seals it shut. The body then gradually absorbs the vein. Henry Mayo's Cardiac Rehab Program Earns Patient Recommendation
In August 2022, Santa Clarita resident Stanton Rutledge underwent valve replacement surgery at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. "I'd been dealing with A-fib - atrial fibrillation - for about 10 years. My cardiologist recommended valve replacement surgery last summer," Stanton said. While hospitalized at Henry Mayo, Stanton was told about Henry Mayo's Cardiac Rehabilitation program. "I wasn't sure I wanted to do it," Stanton said. But he started the program in November.
"After about the 10th session, I started feeling really good and by Christmas I felt so much better," he said. "It's made a total change in my life. I haven't felt this good in years." Stanton says there's more to cardiac rehabilitation than the exercise routine. "They also provide you with a lot of good information about heart health," he said. "The staff there is awesome. They treat every patient like they are the most important person there."
