UCLA Health's Multi-Clinic Streamlines Breast Cancer Care in Santa Clarita
Renowned for excellence and patient-centered care, UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center has earned its place as a leader in cancer care, ranking number one in California and Los Angeles and among the top four in the nation by US News & World Report. Breaking new ground in breast cancer treatment in the Santa Clarita Valley, UCLA Health introduces the Breast Multidisciplinary Clinic
(Multi-Clinic) at UCLA Health Santa Clarita Cancer Care.
A breast cancer diagnosis is often followed by a whirlwind of appointments before treatment even begins. UCLA Health's Multi-Clinic simplifies this process by consolidating meetings with different specialists into one comprehensive appointment.
Prior to the patient's arrival, a team of experts from various specialties including medical oncology, breast imaging, breast surgery, cancer genetics and the Simms Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology work together to create a personalized treatment plan. This plan is meticulously tailored to address the unique needs of each patient, ensuring the most comprehensive care.
During the Multi-Clinic intake appointment, patients meet with specialists who go over their treatment plan, gather feedback and make any necessary adjustments in real-time. A patient navigator coordinates the meeting and everything that comes after, ensuring seamless transitions and support at every step of the patient's journey.
"The Breast Multidisciplinary Clinic represents a significant advancement in breast cancer care, offering patients a streamlined and standardized approach to treatment," explains Rena Callahan, MD, a UCLA Health hematologist oncologist practicing in Santa Clarita and Santa Monica. "With all specialties collaborating under one roof, patients receive the highest level of care and support, ensuring the best possible outcomes."
During the breast cancer journey, patients can access everything they need before, during and after cancer treatment through the
Multi-Clinic. Woven seamlessly into the Multi-Clinic, the Simms Mann team provides compassionate support and counseling, as well as holistic wellness practices including nutritional counseling, yoga, acupuncture and meditation - all for free.
"Patients of our clinic receive the same quality of care and resources as the rest of UCLA Health, without having to spend hours driving around LA," says radiation oncologist Michael H. Xiang, MD, PhD. "Using a multidisciplinary approach from the get-go ensures patients achieve the best possible clinical outcomes, with a seamless experience from diagnosis to treatment to survivorship."
By revolutionizing the breast cancer treatment process, the Multi-Clinic at UCLA Health Santa Clarita Cancer Care empowers patients to navigate their breast cancer journey with confidence - and close to home.

Get in the Sauna for Heart Health & Reduced Mortality
Relaxing in the sauna is often associated with stress and pain relief, but an ongoing scientific study in Finland (It's been running for more than 20 years!) is an excellent reminder that if you want to keep your heart healthy, frequent sauna use is the way to do it.
The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study researchers have discovered that sauna use was associated with a significantly-lower risk of deadly coronary heart disease, fatal cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac death. Interestingly, all-cause mortality was lower in sauna users, too.
These results were "dose dependent," meaning that the sauna lovers who most frequently used the sauna saw the biggest health gains. For those who used a sauna four or more times a week, all-cause mortality was a staggering 40 percent lower than the general population.
The Sweat Shack's unlimited membership plans make it convenient and affordable to sweat frequently so you can enjoy maximum health benefits. With two Santa Clarita locations - one in Saugus and one in Old Town Newhall - there's a Sweat Shack near you!

Three Reasons Women Choose Intimate Aesthetics
The vast majority of vaginal surgeries are done to restore the comfort and function of a woman's body - but some women opt for aesthetic reasons, too, explains Dr. Courtenay Poucher. The surgeon and board-certified OB/GYN, who owns the Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles, shares the three reasons her patients most commonly seek intimate aesthetic surgery.
"The first reason is that they've been embarrassed for years," says Dr. Poucher. "Their intimate anatomy might show through their clothing, like leggings or bathing suits, and it has hindered their quality of life." The second reason is that some patients report that they avoid intimacy because of their intimate anatomical structure. "While not impeding function, some of my patients have shared that the appearance of their intimate area makes them hesitate to engage romantically with their partners," explains the specialist. Lastly, "many of my patients want to regain their anatomy after some sort of trauma, like childbirth," says Dr. Poucher.
"Regardless of the reason, the outcome is that my patients feel like themselves again - and much more comfortable in their own skin," explains Dr. Poucher.
