There are Specialists in Dementia Care who can Help: You are not Alone
According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 7 million Americans currently have some level of dementia. And, as our population continues to age, with 10,000 people a day turning 65, that number is expected to double in the next 30 years.
That's a frightening statistic, because an ever-growing number of families will be emotionally and financially devastated by the need to care for their loved ones - and because the resources available to help those family caregivers are stretched to the point of breaking.
Caring for people with dementia truly involves a team of people with knowledge and skill to help you navigate through this difficult journey. At Home Instead, they work closely with the Alzheimer's Association and UCLA Health to provide education, information, emotional support and family caregiver training to help families cope.
"Over the years, we've discovered an increasing number of resources committed to helping family caregivers and, as expected, one of the best is a website created by the Alzheimer's Association," explains Home Instead owner Charlene Perrone. "The Alzheimer's and dementia caregiver support found at
alz.org includes a variety of suggestions and programs - and shows you how to organize your caregiving life by creating a daily care plan."
Help is out there for whatever stage of dementia your loved one is experiencing now. "Let us help you find the support you need," says Perrone. "You can call us and talk with one of our dementia care specialists about how and where to find help. You are not alone."

In Perimenopause, Menopause or Beyond?
Your First Circle is Free
Contrary to common belief, a woman's midlife isn't just marked by hormonal changes, weight fluctuations and hot flashes. It's a triple transformation: physical, psychological and spiritual. In this season of life, it's difficult to track down the right information, resources and support that help women experiencing this powerful transformation - let alone process it all. That's where Santa Clarita's newest women-centered circle comes in. This bi-weekly supportive space welcomes those in perimenopause, menopause, midlife and post menopause.
"This is for women who are craving connection, community, support and real talk about peri-meno, midlife and post-meno change," explains Andrea M. Slominski, PhD. Warmly known as "Dr. A," Andrea has cultivated an open community of women on similar paths.
"During our conversations in our circle, women will have their questions answered and learn how to improve their life by participating in, influencing and directing the changes they're living through," explains Dr. Slominski. "You'll discover you're not alone or broken - and you'll find compassion and community."
An expert in peri-menopause to post-menopause life stage, Dr. A, who has been in private practice in the SCV for over a decade, shares resources and the latest medical studies on women's health that are so relevant during these years of profound change. Her trauma-informed practice is grounded by her education, which includes training in Depth and Archetypal Psychology and Women's Mythology. Her PhD research focused on the physical, psychological and spiritual changes of menopause and midlife. She is a registered provider with The Menopause Society. Four gatherings are held each month in the community space at Kenneally Acupuncture & Healing Center in Newhall's Plaza Posada and are open to all women in this phase of life. "Guests can register for all four or just one - and their first visit is complimentary when they use the code SCVWC7 or SCVWC10 when they register," explains Dr. A. "In order to keep the circles intimate, seating is limited."
Register at drandreaslominski.com/scv-women-s-circle .Circles are held the first and third Tuesdays at 7pm and the first and third Thursdays at 10am. The cost is $20 per gathering.
