"Saugus and Canyon are two of the eight athletic programs currently competing in the league to win at least 10 straight league championships in their respective SPORT."
The Foothill League is synonymous with some of the most impressive winning streaks in CIF-Southern Section and state history, most notably the Valencia High boys volleyball team, Hart football program and Indian swim squads.

Although the West Ranch girls track and field team made history April 20 by capturing its first league crown, the 2016-17 school year was about several prestigious programs extending impressive Foothill title streaks or returning to championship form.

At the top of the list was the Saugus girls cross country team capturing its 11th consecutive title in November, tying the league record set by Canyon from 1995 to 2005.

Saugus and Canyon are two of the eight athletic programs currently competing in the league to win at least 10 straight league championships in their respective sport.

The Centurions also set the state record with their 11th consecutive top-three podium finish at the CIF State Championships in Fresno.

Valencia captured its eighth straight football title, extending its Foothill winning streak to 27 in a row since October 28, 2011. The Vikings are 39-1 during their impressive run, but one that still pales in comparison to Hart's incredible streak.

The Indians won 13 consecutive Foothill football titles from 1991 to 2003, producing a 65-game league winning streak that ranks second in CIF-Southern Section history to only Long Beach Poly's 82-game run in the Moore League from 1994 to 2009.

Despite significant losses to graduation, and one year after finishing in a three-way tie for the championship with Saugus and Valencia, Canyon captured its eighth consecutive league boys track and field title. It marks the longest championship streak for any Foothill boys track and field program since the Cowboys joined in 1993.

Canyon still holds the longest run of Foothill girls track and field championships, winning 10 in a row from 1996 to 2005. The Cowboys boasted a 47-meet league winning streak during that impressive stretch.

In addition to securing a share of a fifth straight league girls basketball crown, Valencia captured its first CIF-Southern Section Division 1-AA championship. Hart, the only other Foothill program to win girls basketball section titles in 1989, 1990 and 2006, produced a pair of seven-year league championship streaks from 1993 to 1999 and again from 2002 to 2008.

Valencia also captured a share of its fifth consecutive Foothill girls volleyball title. After Saugus interrupted the Vikings' run of nine straight championships in 2011, Valencia has rebounded with another impressive streak.

Canyon preceded Valencia's success with eight league girls volleyball titles in a row from 1994 to 2001.

Although Hart's girls soccer team has tied 13 league matches in the past four seasons, the Indians haven't lost during that span against a Foothill opponent to extend their championship streak. Hart, which is unbeaten in its past 41 league matches since 2013, equaled the second-longest Foothill title run since their own record of seven consecutive crowns from 1994 to 2000.

Hart also earned a share of its fourth straight league boys basketball championship, which followed consecutive titles for West Ranch in 2012 to 2013.

After Valencia won eight straight boys tennis championships from 2006 to 2013 - part of a run of 11 titles in 12 seasons - West Ranch has responded with a significant streak of its own. The Wildcats have won 40 consecutive Foothill matches to capture the past four crowns.

West Ranch also extended its girls golf league
title streak to three in a row and five championships in six seasons after Golden Valley won its lone championship in 2013.
The Wildcats also repeated as league boys volleyball champions, but West Ranch has another decade to go in order to challenge Valencia's dominance. The Vikings captured 12 consecutive Foothill titles, including a state-record 112-match league winning streak from 2001 to 2013.

West Ranch also produced back-to-back Foothill boys cross country titles after Saugus had won three championships in a row and seven in eight seasons.

Valencia, which captured 10 consecutive league softball titles from 2001 to 2010, repeated as champion after West Ranch won four in a row from 2012 to 2015.

The Vikings also secured back-to-back boys soccer crowns following consecutive championships from Hart.

The league's two longest championship runs still belong to the Hart swim program, with the girls winning 21 in a row from 1983 to 2003 before Saugus ended their streak. The Centurions also halted Hart's run of 103 consecutive Foothill dual-meet victories in 2003.

The Indians also won 17 consecutive boys swim titles from 1997 to 2013, before Valencia snapped their championship streak. West Ranch ended Hart's 70-meet Foothill winning streak in 2010.

Not including swimming, 14 of the league's athletic teams managed to extend Foothill title runs during the school year, with West Ranch girls track and field the only first-time champion crowned.

In only four months, the pursuit of adding to those streaks or beginning new ones starts all over again in the Foothill League.
