An Entertainer's Dream Home
September, 2022 - Issue #213

We wanted this home to have an elevated "day-to-day living" feel, a refined California casual style that's very open and spacious - a light and bright texture-filled oasis.

This home was once "where Tommy Bahama came to die." Think leafy ceiling fans, 24-inch square brown tiles, a kitchen filled with brown builder cabinets, brown walls and Tommy Bahama draperies blocking gorgeous views.

Floating shelves replaced upper cabinets to give an illusion of more space. Waterfall quartz on the island is carried up to the ceiling as the backsplash. White oak tends to "pull orange" when stained, so we added a touch of white paint to the final lacquer coat.

We layered white oak cabinets throughout, mixed with dark, rich contrasting cabinets; introduced brass and black accents in the kitchen and bathrooms; wine walls in the family room; and a fireplace that gives everybody fireplace envy.

The wood-slat details add much-needed warmth, toning down the dark cabinets, tying in the white oak and balancing the brass. This stain was custom created in the perfect tones just for this home - but it was so beautiful it now has a permanent spot and name in our wood stain collection.

We often choose a small, tight color palette with only a few main colors and carry them throughout the home with different layers and textures. Flooring and paint colors stay consistent throughout - our signature style is adding layers and textures for a cohesive, consistent flow.

In the master bedroom, you're immediately greeted by a wood accent wall laid in a geometric pattern. This house has an all-white wall palette, so bringing in layers of wood accents strike a balance. The hanging brass pendants and layered black mirrors add to this luxurious backdrop.

Most of the accessories used throughout this home are sourced from the RRI curated collection and can be shopped in person at our flagship interior design office in Valencia.
