Transitional Meets Vintage in Valencia
February, 2016 - Issue #136

Featured this month is perhaps one of our favorite projects to date here at Rebecca Rollins Interiors (RRI). This lovely three-bedroom, two-bath Valencia home had great bones in a very quaint neighborhood. But the interior needed "love" and the client was looking for a hybrid of an industrial look with an old-school feel - a "transitional meets vintage" style.

RIGHT One of the best perks of hiring a professional interior designer is that you gain access to an entirely new world of furniture options. If RRI can't find the perfect piece for your space, they will build a custom piece for you - and usually at a lower price. This affords clients the maximum flexibility in the design using professional and licensed contractors. Most of the pieces shown in these photos are custom RRI designs. The sofas and the wood ottoman with tufted fabric were a few of RRI's favorite pieces in this project. CENTER Without the right accessories and lighting fixtures, a design will fail to wow you and your guests. Besides the vintage hanging lights in the kitchen, RRI adorned the dining room with a rope and iron circular chandelier. LEFT Upon entering the home, guests immediately notice the warm color palette used throughout. Every interior wall is wrapped in a new paint color - Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams - this shade has quickly become a RRI favorite because it's a neutral, but striking, hue for any house. The color is complemented exquisitely by the rustic and varied browns in the tile "wood plank" floor. Every square inch of the floor in the house was removed and replaced with the durable tile that gives the look of a real hardwood floor.

In terms of overall magnitude, the project represented a significant refurbishment but not anything major, like removing walls or adding rooms. While RRI can do smaller jobs and larger projects, we especially enjoyed this job because it allowed us the ability to transform the entire house. We were able to really let the homeowner see their home's full potential. We renovated and gave new life to every living space and room in the house, with the exception of the master bedroom.

FAR LEFT Every flutter of the eye exposes something special - a powerful statement piece in the form of a clock over the fireplace; an awesome wood-plank piece of art with a map of the United States painted on it; one-of-a-kind side and sofa tables with amazing table lamps and accessories that intrigue; a small wooden ladder in the corner of the dining room that works perfectly as a blanket holder. It takes days to appreciate every detail RRI instilled in this project. LEFT The kitchen and main dining space is the focal point of the home. RRI refinished the cabinets in a high-end white glaze. The cabinets are underpinned by a dashing marble subway backsplash and Alaskan white granite countertops. Oil-rubbed bronze fixtures with vintage hanging lights were installed over the island to add height to the already-tall ceilings. This draws eyes up to the beautiful custom beams. RIGHT The massive beams were made of real wood by a local artisan, not made in Mexico, so there was no eight-week delivery time requirement. They are showcased not only in the kitchen and dining room but they also continue into the main living room by the front door. They impart a magnificent first impression on guests as they enter the house. The faux iron connectors on the beams are the perfect blend of industrial-vintage style and tie the house's design and the beams together seamlessly. FAR RIGHT In the bathroom, RRI had a custom vanity with shaker style drawers and louver style doors added. The same Alaskan white granite was used as in the kitchen, but here it was accented with a rustic wood mirror flanked by two vintage-looking sconces complete with Edison bulbs. Light tones for this bathroom were key to giving this small space a spa-like feeling.
