Yes, You can Sell your Home During the Holidays

"Kathy, I really want to sell our house - I think we'll make a very handsome profit. But... is it too late to list it now, before the holidays? Do I need to wait until after the New Year?"
Some form of that question above has crossed my desk three times in the last week - so I thought I'd answer it for everyone here.
Short answer: No, you don't need to wait to list your home for sale. There are still way more buyers than properties available - and if your home is in good condition, it'll still draw plenty of attention. Of course, the long answer has more nuance!
Selling during the holiday season isn't only manageable - it can be advantageous. There will be some sellers who pull their homes from market during that time and others who will wait to list, so the number of homes available will drop - making yours all the more attractive.
And yes, while the number of buyers will also go down a tad during the holidays, that number won't drop remarkably in this market - and highly-motivated buyers will be competing with each other over a smaller number of homes.
In our experience, that means that homes that are turn-key ready, or near it, and priced competitively should see no shortage of offers - and even multiple offers and bidding wars.
How do you swing selling during a busy season? Well, if you're going away to visit family or on a holiday vacation... perfect! Your agent can schedule viewings during that time. And no - you don't need to pull all your holiday decorations before you go. Buyers do love seeing a "clean slate," but a clutter-free holiday scape isn't going to discourage anyone from seeing their own vision for a cozy holiday home.
And if you aren't going anywhere - that works, too. Your agent will make sure that viewings are limited to only very interested buyers and scheduled when it's convenient for you.
Selling during this time can make for very happy holidays - so don't hold back if it's on your to-do list!
